Jake scoffed in disbelief. "What's so funny? Why aren't you scared? And no, I will not be leaving."
"Nice outfit," I giggled in response, "only one you have?" I could tell I caught him off guard. He shifted his gaze downward and brought his hand to rub the back of his neck. "Aww," I pouted, "is somebody embarrasseddd?"
"Um-," he started, but I cut him off.
"Leave." I paraded past him and into the kitchen. I knew he wouldn't go, but I didn't mind. He acts brasher than he is, that's for sure. I plugged my phone into a charger and waited for it to turn on.
"What's that thing?" Jake asked. He was seated at the kitchen's island, head resting in his hands. "A phone. You can use it to contact people, take pictures, listen to music - stuff like that. There's games on it, too."
"Oh...ok. And what year is it?"
"Twenty-twenty-two." I heard his breath hitch in his throat.
"Twenty-twenty-two? It's been over one hundred years?" This clearly distressed him. He ran his fingers through his hair - hands visibly shaking.
I didn't know quite what to say, so I figured I would unlock my phone and text y/f/n I was okay. I had five missed calls from her and forty unread messages. Geez. I looked back at Jake and cleared my throat."Uhm, I can get you a change of clothes if you'd like." He nodded, and I led him upstairs to my room. I pulled a bin out from under my bed which held my ex's clothes and handed him a white t-shirt and gray sweatpants. "If you walk down the hall my bathroom will be on your left," I told him, "you can change there."
