Clack!

A rock hit my window. I pulled my blanket over my head and ignored it.

Clack!

Another one. Annoyed, I got out of bed and headed to my window, pulling the curtains apart. Jake stood on the ground below, tapping his foot impatiently. He cupped his hands around his mouth, "Come down here!" I pulled on a sweatshirt and shorts and hurried to meet him. With my mom asleep, I didn't need to bother explaining myself.

"Were you planning on keeping me waiting all night?" Jake grinned. It was a relief to see his smile again.

"I was considering it." I invited him inside, stopping by the kitchen to grab him a cookie.

"That was seriously the most delicious thing I've ever eaten," he said, licking the remnants of crumbs off his fingers. I giggled, grabbing his wrist and leading him to my room. We sat cross-legged on the floor, not knowing what more to say. Our previous meeting hadn't exactly ended on a good note. I figured I would start by rejecting his confession.

"I'm sorry, Jake," the air was thick with tension, "I-" I couldn't do it.

"You don't feel the same way?" his face fell; it was unbearable to witness - that look of utter despair.

"No, no," I scrambled for the right words to say, "I do! It's just...I don't want to leave my friends and family. I hope you understand." Even as I said this, though, I knew deep down it wasn't true. It was selfish of me, and yes, perhaps I was blinded by love, but I needed him. A life without school, without having to worry about friends or family? It didn't sound dreadful. Was it wrong of me to seek happiness - to do something for myself once?

He took my hands in his, gazing tenderly into my eyes. "Y/n, I understand. All I want is for you to be happy." He hesitated before closing the distance between us, brushing his thumb against my cheek, "May I?"

There was no sense in resisting - I knew I wanted him, and him, me. "Please," I breathed.

He wasted no time, pressing his lips to mine in a heated passion. "You have no idea how long I've waited for this moment," he whispered, tucking a strand of stray hair behind my ear.
