"What should I do?" We sat in her bed - her across from me. She massaged her temple. "So if you were to be with him, he'd have to turn you into a vampire as well?" I nodded.

"Okay, so that'd imply you'd have to leave everyone behind. No school, no parents, no me." I nodded again, "See? It's a tricky situation. I have to sacrifice one or the other."

"Which is more important to you?" Y/f/n looked at me expectantly. The answer was obvious, "The life I have right now."

"Then there you have it." I knew she was right, morally, but that answer left me dissatisfied. Deep down I wanted to choose him. I bit back a frown. "He'll probably come over to my house tonight. I'll tell him there. Want to finish reading over some syllabus'?" I tried to lighten the mood, to push my feelings of disappointment away.

I said goodbye after we finished our work, eager to get home. It would be getting dark soon. The sun dipped lower in the sky, casting a rich orangish hue rather than the harsh bright light of the afternoon and late morning. I closed my eyes and inhaled deeply, cherishing the moment. Summer would be coming to a close soon.

By the time I got home, it was dark. I took the keys from the lanyard around my neck and unlocked the front door. "Just in time for dinner!" My mom smiled at me as she set a dish down on the dinner table.

"Where's dad?"

"He must be stuck in traffic. He should be home any time now." I returned my mom's smile and hung my bag on the coat hanger. I waited for Jake to come, but to my avail, he never did. I went to bed that night feeling empty.
