Chapter 20 - Triumph or Death
When Shiro awoke he was on the bridge, blinking wearily at the purple lights Shiro looked around at his surroundings, finding Lance slumped against the wall, chest barely moving and Sendak ordering Haxus to find the saboteur that's thwarting their plans. "Commander Sendak, I've received a transmission generated from somewhere inside." Haxus replied automatically playing the transmission.
"There's not much time before they get the ship running again," Came Allura's voice, "You must shut off the particle barrier so we can get in."
"You got it. Tell me what to do." Pidge replied easily.
"The particle barrier generator is beneath the main hull."
"She's telling the intruder how to take down our defences." Haxus spoke annoyed.
"Yes," Sendak relented, "But she's also giving away his location. Find that room. Kill the Paladin!" Sendak ordered the sentries moving out the room right away, "Repair the engine. Emperor Zarkon has commanded us to bring him Voltron. This ship will rise before day's end." Sendak vowed much to Shiro's dread.
Shiro listened closely as Allura directed Pidge through destroying the generator, her getting shot at and cleverly escaping, before moving towards the central energy chamber again, this time seeing Haxus, who was communicating with Sendak, "Powering sub panels."
"Sub panel energy transducer is go,"
"Aye, sir. Opening pathway to link with the Bridge. Initialising main cluster reboot." Taking advantage of Sendak's distraction, Shiro discreetly moved towards Lance. Bringing two of his human fingers up to Lance's neck, sighing with relief at the heartbeat. Knowing that talking would be fruitless and dangerous, Shiro shook Lance instead.
" 'm awake," Lance murmured, eyes fluttering open, looking at Shiro who tried to get his message across, "he drugged me," Lance whispered, looking between Sendak and Shiro. Shiro nodded, Lance moved his eyes around the room, blinking more often in an attempt to stake awake.
"Initialising complete. I'm set for main power up," Haxus's voice echoed around the room, Shiro's look of panic wasn't missed by Lance, who wondered what was happening.
"The Bridge is go." Came Sendak's reply, pressing a few buttons.
"Powering up," Haxus said before alarms started to blare, "Sir, something is wrong," The sound of the engine overloading and exploding echoed in the bridge but the transmission ended before they were told what happened. Shiro felt a tap on the shoulder, turning to Lance he saw the tilt to his end, making a phone in his hand and then an explosion, Lance understood what had happened.
"Haxus, report in!" Sendak commanded, as he saw multiple red signals popping up.
"Haxus is gone, and you're next!" Pidge's voice replied, making Shiro smile with relief, gesturing that Pidge was talking by making the phone motion pointing to his symbol and the number 5, which is the number Coran gave her, Lance nodded in understanding.
"You've slowed me down, but this ship is mine! You will turn yourself over to me immediately!" Sendak barked out.
"Never!" Came Pidge's defiant reply.
"Well, then, maybe your leader can convince you," Sendak said as he walked toward where Shiro and Lance were, smirking as Shiro crouched in front of Lance to protect him. Grabbing Shiro's arm while pointing his Galra one at Lance, making sure neither made a move to fight
"What do you want?" Shiro bit out.
"Your friend here wanted to hear from you." Sendak replied.
"Shiro?" Pidge hesitantly called out.
