Chapter 30: The astral plane.

The Voltron gang didn't know who to watch, the alien, doing something mystical or the human who shouldn't be able to do the ceremony. The Blue that surrounded Allura and Lance grew when they locked eyes, Allura's eyes dropping to the marks in confusion before following the supposed human in closing her eyes. focusing on her energy connecting it to the mechanical wiz of the crystal in the castle, directing it to the ground before looking up to Lance only to see the others rush towards Lance as he pitched forward a pained groan being able to be heard from where she knelt.

Worry gnawed at her insides, wishing she could check on him but knowing that he would want her to continue. The paladins had no conflicting emotions and rushed towards their friend, ready to drag him away from the balmera. "Don't touch him!" Came the surprisingly calm voice of Coran.

"And why the hell not?" Keith shouted back, marching towards the advisor, "I thought this was meant to be safe, that's the only reason why I brought red to be used!" The others hovered but didn't touch the blue paladin while twisting to look at the interaction between Keith and Coran while also keeping an eye on Lance.

"Waking him up could kill him," Coran replied, watching as Shiro grabbed the back of Keith's jacket

"How come Lance seems catatonic and in pain, while Allura looks somewhat fine?" Pidge asked, watching as a tear ran down Lance's face, not realising that Lance was no longer in pain and instead experiencing something completely different.

"I can't say for certain." Coran responded sheepishly, straightening out his shirt

"But you have an idea right? Because he doesn't look alright to me!" Hunk fretted, "I knew I shouldn't of let him do this!"

"Hunk, this was Lance's choice, he'll be fine." Shiro intervened.

"Indeed number 1, The fact that he isn't withering in pain and screaming is a big indicator that he'll be fine." Coran piped up, ignoring Pidge's and Hunk's incredulous shouts of the symptoms, "the most likely case is that this is the first time his body has taken on this much quintessence at once," Coran explained.

The glow from the ground finally surrounded the surrounding area, going past the two lions as well as the Castle, reaching the galra machinery that stood a way away. "Lance?" Pidge asked, reaching out but still heading Coran's warning of not touching him, the others looked at Lance watching as he stared straight forward unblinking and golden. Pidge waved her hand in front of his face, they were greeted with no movement.

"What's happening to him?" Keith demanded, turning back to Coran, gesturing to Lance.

"His eyes were like that on the bridge, and and he said it was because of the lions, right?" Hunk fumbled, frantically looking towards Lance and Coran. They watched as Lance unsteadily got to his feet, looking more like a zombie than a living human.

Lance wiped the tears away from his eyes looking at the pair in front of him, "How?" he breathed out.

"The same way you met the paladins of old," Allura said gently, moving towards Lance kneeling down in front of him.

Lance paused, staring at Allura like she was insane "But aren't you technically alive, I thought only dead people stayed in the astral plane?"

"Time is a weird thing, alternate realities more so," Keith started walking to stand next to Allura, looking down at his lover, ignoring Allura's mutter of 'we should know', "We died" Keith stated bluntly, glaring at Allura when she smacked his leg.

"As crudely as Keith put it, we did pass and doing so our quintessence came here, to the astral plane. When I sent you back in time, I got some things..." Allura paused looking hesitant, "Wrong." Ignoring Keith's snort, Allura continued, "Some other things from the future that weren't mean to come here did."
