Chapter 4: Rescuing Shiro

Lance, Hunk and Pidge made it to a nearby cliff where they spied on the quarantined crash site. Pidge is sat down trying to set up her equipment once more, Hunk was crouched down as he tried to make out the smaller details. While Lance was looking at the alien craft through some binoculars. "Whoa... What the heck is that thing?" Lance asked, not slipping his act for a moment.

Lance sighed in defeat "Man, we'll never get past all those guards to get a look,"

"Aw, man. Yeah, we- yeah I guess there's nothing to do but head back to the barracks, right?" Hunk said, in fake upsetness.

"Wait. They set up a camera in there and I grabbed its feed. Look!" Pidge said making the other two look at the screen. They watched as Shiro struggled against the table he was on, they gave little comments and gasped when he spoke of Voltron. They were giving little ideas on how they could sneak in when some explosions burst in the distance.

"Is that the aliens? Are- Tha- The- Is that the aliens! Are they here? They got here so quickly!" Hunk screamed.

"No. Those explosions were a distraction, for him," Pidge stated before pointing at Keith's hovercraft, "The Garrison's headed towards the blast, and he's sneaking in from the other side!" Lance looks to where she was pointing through the binoculars, even though he already knew who it was.

"No way... Oh, he is not going to beat us in there! that guy is always trying to one-up me!" Lance lied. In the future, right before him and Lance got together, they were equal. Lance was faster, while Keith was stronger, but they worked well together, which only grew when they finally asked each other out.

"Who is it?" Hunk wanted to know

"Keith!"

"Who?" Pidge questioned

"Are you sure?" Hunk asked

"Oh, I'd recognize that mullet anywhere!" Lance answered, before sliding down the mountain, Hunk following.

"Who's Keith?" Shouted Pidge as she quickly caught up to Hunk. By the time that the trio arrived, Keith had already cut Shiro out of the bonds and was trying to carry him.

"Nope. No, you- No, no, no, no, no, no, no you don't. I'm saving Shiro," Lance quickly said as he lifted Shiro over his own shoulder.

"Who are you?" Lance tried to make the hurt not show on his face, he really did. He understood that this wasn't his Keith and that this Keith wouldn't know or remember him but it still hurt. Keith was his Captain, his friend, the one he could trust but mainly Keith was his boyfriend and for him not to remember stung.

"Who am I? Uh, the name's Lance," Lance said, covering up his pain, reminding himself that this was past Keith. While Lance suffered his inner turmoil, Keith looked at Lance without recognition. "We were in the same class at the Garrison?" Lance continued.

"Really? Are you an engineer?" Keith asked.

"No, I'm a pilot. We were, like, rivals. You know Lance and Keith, neck-and-neck," Lance, carried on, 'Your right-hand man' Lance thought.

"Oh wait, I remember you," Keith started "You're a cargo pilot," Lance silently fumed but didn't let it show on his face 'That's how you remembered me? As a cargo pilot? Why I ought to...'

"Well, not anymore. I'm fighter class now thanks to you washing out," Lance replied bitterly.

"Well, congratulations," Keith continued awkwardly.

They all rush out of the building, where Hunk asks for a ride. They soon try to escape, going slower than normal. After a while they reached a cliff, everyone screaming (albeit Lance's scream was fake) while Keith smirked. Keith safely avoids crashing into the ground and continues flying into the desert towards his shake and escaping the Garrison.
