Bhavika Nayantara Patel was born at 10:38 pm in New York, New York, to Marjane and Varun Patel. She was the second child of the family, only three years younger than her older brother Rohan.

Bhavika later became Bria, because she hated that none of her friends and teachers could say her name right. So she opted for the more user friendly option. After Bria, came Shalene Patel who was born a little over 6 years after her.

The Patel's loved to push their children, so that is why Bria developed many hobbies in her childhood. Her after school activities ranged from piano lessons to learning Bharatnatyam dance from her aunts. But amidst the whirlwind of her childhood and teenage years she always found her peace in painting. It let her paint the places she would love to escape to, it gave her solace in the late hours of night. She would often dream she could jump into her paintings and lived a joyful carefree life inside of them.

Now she was finding her peace in the art form again.

She sat on the front porch of her incredibly small house, easel in front of her. She lightly sketched the house across the street and the rising morning sun behind it. Her pencil scratched against the rough canvas, as her picture began to take shape.

She looked over it thoroughly before deciding she should paint. She opened up her kit and neatly organized all of her brushes according to size, and her paints to color. She squeezed her paint on to her hand held palette and was just about to reach for her first brush, when her phone rang. She placed down the palette and picked it up.

"Hi Vika!" Shalene giggled on the other side of the phone.

"Hi choti behan." Bria smiled at the sound of her younger sister.

"I know the wedding isn't for another few weeks, but I'm just so excited." Bria's eyes widened at her sister's words. She had forgotten about her own sister's wedding.

"I'm really excited too." She agreed trying to hide her own forgetfulness.

"You will be able to come right? I know you are on some top secret mission, and I know how important your work is to you..." Shalene trailed off and Bria was shocked that her sister thought she would put work before her own sister's wedding. Even though she herself quite nearly forgot.

"Absolutely not, I would never miss your wedding for the world. I'll talk to the admiral tomorrow and I will get those days off, I'm making sure of it." She reassured her and Shalene sighed a breath of relief.

"Oh thank goodness, I was about to call Cousin Padma and tell her she would be taking your place in my bridesmaids."

"No that kutiya does not deserve to take my place." As soon as the sentence came out of her mouth her hand flew to her mouth.

"Oh my gosh!" Shalene snorted. "That's the best thing I've heard all day."

A muffled voice came from Shalene's side. "Vika, mama wants to talk to you."

"Okay pass the phone to her." She waited for her mother's voice to come through.

"Hi beta!" Her mother greeted over the phone.

"Hi mama."

"So you are coming to the wedding?" Her mother always got straight to the point.
