She flicked the tv and turned on a documentary for background noise. She grabbed her book Jane Eyre for some reading while she waited for the dessert to set. She flipped through the pages reading the words but nothing stood out to her until her eyes fell to a quote.
"I have for the first time found what I can truly love – I have found you. You are my sympathy – my better self – my good angel – I am bound to you with a strong attachment. I think you good, gifted, lovely: a fervent, a solemn passion is conceived in my heart; it leans to you, draws you to my centre and spring of life, wrap my existence about you–and, kindling in pure, powerful flame, fuses you and me in one."
Her heart twinged, knowing it was hard for her to even reach that feeling. It was so difficult for her that she sometimes believed there was something wrong with her. She did know if there was a term for the way she could only love after knowing the person for long enough. She had dated men but she forced herself to love them in an effort to seem normal, but it felt like she was lying to herself. So, she avoided romantic relationships for good measure to avoid being ridiculed.
She shook off her thoughts and went back to reading. She tried to focus but her brain kept going back to the quote. She shut the book and rested her head in her hands.
"I'm tired." She said to nobody in particular.
She got off the couch and went to take a nap in her room.
She slept for an hour or so before getting back up and checking on her gulab jamun's. She chopped up some pistachios and sprinkled them on top and taste testing one.
"Perfect." She licked her fingers and closed the lid.
She put them in a tote bag and went to go get ready. She braided her hair down her back, put on a light dusting of makeup and donned her favorite oversized dress shirt and a pair of light blue jeans. She grabbed her sunglasses, keys and tote bag with dessert before heading out the door. She punched in Penny's address to her gps and made the drive.
Penny's beachside house was not too far from her own, she parked her car a little bit down the street and walked to the front door. She counted 7 trucks in total, parked on the street and assumed they were her fellow aviators'. She knocked on the front door and Penny opened it with a grin.
"Hi Bria, come on in." She smiled and ushered her to the kitchen. "The boys are on the beach playing a round of football, I think. Also I hope you brought dessert because someone...." She glared at Phoenix. "didn't."
"Well today is your lucky day Pen, Lieutenant Trace texted me and I have prepared dessert. My Paradadee's famous gulab jamun's. A Hindu speciality." Bria bowed and took out the two massive containers of jamun's. "If you are allergic to any type of nut I would stay away."
"Thank you Bria." Penny hugged Bria.
"It is no problem. I love baking, almost as much as flying." Penny and Phoenix laughed.
There was another knock on the door and Penny went to answer. Amelia came bounding down the stairs. "Bria!" She yelled and nearly tackled the woman. Bria laughed as she embraced the girl.
"Hi Amelia! My have you grown since the last time I saw you." She exclaimed looking her up and down.
"Well I just turned 15 last month so I hope I look different from when I was 10." She said a-matter-a-factly.
