CHAPTER 5

HIM

"Get to your stations please."

"Partners ulit tayo?" I asked Emma, one of my fellow classmate as I walked through one of the stations, smiling. Napatingin naman siya saakin, and nodded.

"Of course." I stood next to her and looked in front, our instructor showed us a plate dish as an example, and so we took down notes on the ingredients that should be used... He dismissed us and gave us about two hours, so we got started.

When all was prepared, we cleaned up our station first and started getting some ingredients in the fridge, washing our hands and started to discuss on what part we should start off in making the chicken.

"How about a chicken roulade? Since I think the mushrooms and spinach would be great in that type of dish, then for the condiments we can make a creamy mustard chive?" I suggested as I placed the ingredients at the table.

"Oh, sige." I nodded and checked if there was any missing for our dish, when there wasn't I started the stove and prepared the mushrooms first, mixing it with the onions. When I was done, I helped Emma with preparing the chicken, flattening it then stuffing the spinach in the chicken breast.

"Ako na jaan." Napatingin ako kay Emma, and let her continue with the chicken as I gathered the ingredients for the condiments. When I looked back, she was rolling the chicken with the clips to secure it, and so I helped her place it in the fridge.

We waited for about an hour, and so I took out the rolled chicken, taking off the plastic wrapper and added some coating. Emma already prepared the coating, so I started to dip the chicken rolls.

I prepared the stove and began frying the breaded chicken rolls, until they looked golden brown, placing them on the plate neatly and started making the garnish, till finally we were done. There were still about five minutes left. I washed my hands, and sat next to Emma, waiting for the others to finish.

"Have you thought about what I said last time?" Napatingin ako kay Emma.

Uhh... oh no...

"A-ah, about what again?" I said, trying to act casually but failed a bit.

"My confession?"

"Ahh, right. I'm not really... looking for a relationship right now, sorry... but you're really great, you know... and you're one of my friends, I wouldn't want to make it more awkward between us." I said, slightly smiling... trying to not make it awkward as it already is.

"Oh..."

"Sorry–"

"No, it's ok... I understand." She smiled at me, making me feel relieved.

"Times up, please be ready for evaluation." Napatingin kami dalawa sa harap, nice saved...

When the session was done, I immediately dipped, hurriedly went out of the room, placed my apron on my locker fast and went to get a ride in the shuttle.

"Ah fuck, di ko talaga inexpect mahulog yun sa'kin." I let out a big sigh and slumped on the bench at the shuttle stop. Bigla naman tumunog yung phone ko and I immediately knew who it was.

As I opened my phone, pangalan ni Shannen ang bumungad. We've been texting each other nowadays and palaging ganitong oras kami nag-uusap.

Halos isang buwan na din to, we occasionally fuck around, then ghost each other for a few days then we start to talk to each other again but its mostly through text. Until the texts became constant. Ewan, I just naturally got used to it and I like this, like how she's also looking for the same thing as me. I replied back to her text, asking me where I was. As I was typing my reply, bigla naman siyang tumawag. I was a bit taken aback but answered it.
