- AMAYA'S POV -
No, no, no. This was not meant to happen in this way—No, no. The two-letter phrase repeats itself over and over in my head like a mantra, and I find myself wishing I could be dragged down into the lowest depths of hell so he would not suffer any harm.
But it's too late; his gaze of treachery, which sweeps my breath away, is directed at me, the mask, and then back at me. I wish I could go in time right now in order to correct my mistakes and restore the remaining hope between us.
"There was a knock at the door, I opened it and the box sat there, opened." He explains and stands up, avoiding my gaze.
My throat is lumped, and I am unable to talk or breathe. All I can think of is how I should have told him sooner since time does not wait, and I can only feel guilty.
The devil never could be happy, it was a thwarted thing that me and Rowan had. Had, had, had.
"Explain this," He finally looks at me and his expression feels like a personal attack, "Explain why this mask was in it. I have only seen one person wear it. The Silent Killer."
I forcefully swallow the fears I did not realize I had as soon as he mentions the name. I swallow the writings of devils, but they all come back, and all that is left is guilt.
"Say something, anything." He mutters so carefully while my hands shake.
"That is my mask," I hesitate as I feel tears well up in my eyes, but I ignore them, brush them aside, and refuse to feel anything.
"You hurt me, took care of me—You had my fucking trust but for you, I was what? Just a game?" He swears, and his face has changed; he now resembles someone else, somebody worse.
With pain written all over his face, he throws the mask on the couch and comes closer to me.
"All I want to know is why," He whispers and makes an effort to hide his anger, but I can still feel it. Hatred is the only feeling I can feel emanating from him.
"I needed information about your clan," I tell him while looking him in the eye and he pauses for a few moments to simply stare at me.
He looks at me as if I am a stranger, as if I do not matter, as though I'm merely a waste of space.
"You knew about everything all along?" He mutters to himself as his hands rush to his hair. I can tell he is going crazy because every time he looks at me, all of the nice things he feels for me vanish.
