Not sure why Denji couldn't take Nayuta home himself, but as long as he was living a normal life, I guess I wouldn't mind.
We've all played hooky sometimes, skipping school is normal teenager behavior. With my fingers pressed to my lips, I stared off intently at the small girl before me, watching as she accepted ice-cream from the vendor. By the looks of it, she got a lemon popsicle. How strange.
"Got them?" I called as she approached me, and almost with a hint of excitement, she held up her popsicle and ice cream for me to see. "Ooh, looks good." I chuckled, watching as she soon paid me no mind, hopping in front of me and beginning her walk to the playground.
Guess I'm on babysitting duty?
Sighing a little, I followed after her, glancing at the late afternoon scenery. Soon, it'll be dark, so she can't stay out here playing for too long. I can't help but to wonder, even still, about Denji. He was impossible to figure out, plus he never listens to me. Ever.
How did Mister Hayakawa stand him?
A tug on my plant leg pulled me from my thoughts, my weary eyes stretching over to the cause. "We're here?" I asked, glancing around the open playground. With a soft chuckle, I squatted down to see her, smiling softly as she stared blankly at me, her glowing eyes looking as if they could tell many stories. "Don't wait on me, 'kay? Go play." I hummed, and she only nodded, passing me the wrappers from her icey treats.
She finished those up fast, didn't she?
I quickly found a bench to sit on, keeping my eyes on her person. I couldn't afford loosing sight of her, what would even happen to Denji if did? Honestly, I don't want to know.
Actually...
What is happening to Denji?-
"Tagged? Whadoya' mean, tagged?" I gruffed out, pulling back from the hug to look into her eyes. Her lip quivered as she glanced around, anxious fear shining deep in her eyes. Her breath was caught in her throat, small sounds leaving her but never true words.
It was as if- as if she was looking for something- someone.
"Tell me. I'll get you out I promise." I reassured, stroking her arms tenderly as her eyes flew back to me.
"He... He's gonna kill me..." she stammered, her hands falling back to rest her palms against my bare chest. "I won't allow it."
"He... compressed me. I'm... In order to insure that I can farm the most power off you... he planted me on your neck... Right here," Her fingers reached up and pressed themselves flat on the left side of my neck. "Power? You're in my body? I don't understand," I quirked, brows kneading together intensely.
"Y-you... Well," she paused, reaching up to wipe her tears, "He's been feeding off your sadness... your tears and such... While you're awake and asleep... normally it- it's just while you're sleeping, but I... basically live in your brain thanks to my compression... Your fear and sadness give him p-power..." Her demanour only got worse as worse as she spoke, paranoia breaking through her features, forcing her eyes and head to whiff around, her bitter trembling growing stronger by the second.
"I dunno how half of this stuff even works, but- wait..." A pause flew over the space of the room, my lip poking out in a pout.
"So you don't actually love me!"
I barked out, shaking my head in disbelief, my mouth flung open."Denji..."
"Shit." I grumbled, head falling in shame."I know everything about you... I've lived through every single memory you've ever had." The words seemed to fall off her tongue, her face turning softer within seconds. My question looked to have taken her by pleasant surprise, as she seemed to calm a little by it.
Her hands found their way to my cheeks, cupping them and holding them gently.
But.
There's no way she's seen it all... I've done some embarrassing things when I was a kid. Man, I still do most of them now."So, you know about the beach girl thing?"
"Yes... and the sock."
"Shit man."There's no way!
Sorrow captivated my face for a second, but before I could even say to much, (y/n) shot up like an arrow, that sickeningly scared face of hers returning. "What-"
Crashes and hangs uproared around me, the floor shattering beneath my very own feet. Helplessly we were now being tossed into the open air, arms flailing and whipping, hearts exploding in our chests and our breaths wild. The wind whipped and nicked my skin, a hearty yell rolling off my tongue, but my scream was no where near as horrifying as the terror filled shrill that crippled out from the girl falling beside me.
This was no time to be afraid! I had to protect her!
Reaching for my cord, I ripped it out, a hot searing pain that I had grown accustomed to flying through my forehead, reconstructing my face. Pushing towards her, I shot my blades back into my arm, grabbing her body into mines. The ground was rapidly approaching, and I had no way of catching myself.
-
"Ha. Ha. Nono- don't let it touch me." I forced out, shaking my head furiously at the animal that the girl presented to me. In her hands laid a big, ugly, wart filled frog, it's croaking as disgusting as it was obnoxious. Nayuta only peered at me with her curious eyes, eventually laying it down and watching it scurry off."What a cute little guy huh?"
That was the ugliest frog I had ever seen.My hand stumbled forward, ruffling the raven locks of the little head before me. She only nodded, climbing up on to the bench to sit with me.
"Are you finished playing?"
She nodded."Let's go home then, hm? Today was a fun, peaceful, uneventful day."

Teehee.
