"Hey, Ji."
"Yes?" He called back, peeling his eyes off the floorboards as he stared over at me.
Today, Denji, Mitaka, and I were assigned clean up duty for the rest of this week, and into the beginning of the next. Honestly, I really didn't want to see Mitaka, not any time soon at least. She was acting all weird this morning and it didn't end, not even at lunch. Right now, I'm scrubbing the floors with Denji while Mitaka took to cleaning the windows. With her only shooting out short remarks here and there while Denji and I talked.
Oh, and Yoshida was there too!
Speaking of...
"Why's Yoshida sorta... avoiding you? Is he mad or something?" I asked to Denji, who only hummed as he turned his attention to me. Tartly, I glanced back at the solemn, stoic boy behind me, a hint of annoyance across his face as he crossed his arms. He quietly stood against the classroom's board, patiently waiting for me to finish up here so we could go home.
At the question, Denji would spit out a laugh, his body hunching over into his puddle of cleaning products on the floor, his arms wrapping around his stomach as he laughed. His voice was abrupt, booming in the space and echoing obnoxiously in the classroom. His laugh was a little contagious as a smile cracked onto my lips, a giggle at my throat.
"Ji! You're getting soaked!" I tried to calm him with a smile, but his laughter only worsened. Tears swelled in his eyes, his free fist slamming into the floorboard! Slowly, I shuffled on my knees toward him giggling, grabbing his shirt and shaking him lightly. "Dennnjiii! Tell meee,"
"I pranked! I pranked Y-Yoshida so good! He's... whoo... So mad!"
"That was NOT a prank, Denji." Yoshida grumbled, his face hard and cold. "Do not ever do... that... again." He shuddered, his voice calm and emotionless. A little too calm if you asked me, I got the chills.
Denji only cackled, reaching a sly finger up to wipe some of his tears off. "I would have killed him if I were you," Mitaka spat, a ticked off expression heavy on her face. "Wait was I the only person who didn't know about this!" I whined, shaking Denji still.
"Of course he wouldn't tell (y/n)! He's gotta keep up his reputation with her, wah wah." She mocked with an exaggerated tone, causing another fit of laughter from the blonde. "It's not fu... You know what. I'm just gonna wait outside." Yoshida sighed, catching himself coolly before escaping the room. "Wait Yoshida! What'd he do! What'd he dooo!" I called out after him, but he gave no reply.
No fair!
How come everyone knows about Denji's prank except me! Pouting I whipped to Mitaka who was scrubbing the windows, my eyes big and wide. "Mitaka tell me," I managed out between the roars of Denji. "I don't want to talk about it... I don't even want to think about it," she shuddered."Dennjii Denjii," I whined, sprawling ontop of the boy, resting my back atop his. His ribcage would shake and vibrate from his laughs, the expanding of his chest pushing me up a bit every so often. Slowly, he'd come down from his high with a few stray chuckles, a loud groan falling out from him as he sighed.
"I haven't laughed... like that on a w-while! Whooo-f!" He groaned, softly fanning himself as his cheek pressed into his scrub brush puddle.
"You know! T-The last time I pranked some was with P— ah."
His voice fell almost instantaneously, his lovely excitement fading away into air.
His breath hitched a little, a quietness so uncharacteristically Denji taking over the room.
It was silent like that for a minute, with none daring to say anything.
The sound of scrubbing and shuffling alone stole laughter-voided space.
