M-21 walked out to the terrace, pausing when he saw someone else. Muzaka turned to see who it was before returning his gaze towards the view.
Concluding that he wasn't interrupting Muzaka's peace, he walked towards the edge, taking a place beside the werewolf.
M-21 placed his hand against the cement by his side. Having just come from washing the dishes under the hot water of the kitchen faucet, his hands had been warm, and the cold surface felt rather soothing.
It was nice— the silence and serenity. Occasionally, a few cars passes through the road of the neighbourhood, and a few people walked by. Since Frankenstein's house had been a few storeys tall, it was easy to get a view of the city across the neighbourhood. The lights from buildings were shinning like fairy lights and the moonlight along with the streetlights brightened up the area, enough to see well.
Hearing the front door click open, M-21 peered down to see the children flood out, their chattering and laughter echoing through the silence. M-21, at first, thought the kids were more of a nuisance, being loud and messy. But that thought changed, just like he had in the time he spent at the house. He grew fond of the kids, not that he would say that out loud, but his day felt incomplete without their voices ringing in the living room.
M-21 noticed Muzaka watching the children till they were out of sight. He noticed the look of pain on the werewolf's face and had an idea of what was running through the other's mind, but not knowing how to comfort him, M-21 chose to be silent.
Muzaka sighed, glancing towards him, held his gaze for a second, before turning away.
Hesitation.
Muzaka was never hesitant. He would go on to say whatever was on his mind, being carefree and laid back.
"Something on your mind?" M-21 asked, knowing that there was something bothering the other, but not sure if Muzaka wanted to share his thoughts, or was ready to do so.
Muzaka turned his head towards M-21, but his eyes weren't concentrated on him, he was thinking. Thinking on how to phrase his thoughts.
"You, and your friends," Muzaka began carefully, "you don't remember your past, or your families."
The look of worry and concern on his face made M-21 feel touched. The werewolf lord had barely known them for him to worry.
"You don't remember your name," Muzaka added, feeling conflicted with the fact that the modified humans were as clueless about their past as any stranger would be.
M-21 took a moment to frame up an answer, a proper one, he was after all talking to a werewolf lord, and if he ignored that fact, Muzaka was the Noblesse's friend.
"We don't," M-21 replied, and it did bother him sometimes. He sometimes wonders if he had left someone waiting, or had he been alone before? He didn't know that, but he was sure of one thing.
"But we have a family now," he said, his tone soft, barely audible, but clear enough for Muzaka to hear.
Raizel one day asked if they were family, and it was an idea everyone adored. To be a family, to know there was someone to have his back, to look out for him, to help him.
"We might not remember who we were before, I might not remember my name, but,"
Muzaka didn't miss the smile which appeared on M-21 face, one of the genuine smiles he didn't see frequently. "This is home."
Frankenstein and Raizel had taken him under their care when he lost his last comrade. They gave him shelter, a job, the freedom he had been deprived of. He finally could live an ordinary life.
He doesn't remember his name, but 'M-21' was no longer a codename used by scientists to use; it was as good as his name now, a name for people to call him by.
"But family... to have siblings, parents," Muzaka voiced out the thought which poked out his mind, bothering him.
"I do have siblings," M-21's reply was rather fast, like the thought slipped out, but he had a certainty in his tone. "I have brothers, a sister too."
M-21 hadn't voiced it out, but the thought, the feeling, it was set in stone.
Takeo, Tao and Regis were as good as his brothers and Seira as his sister. He trusted them with his life and knew they would be there for him. They had fought alongside him, protected him. They weren't just his housemates or comrades, they were more than that... they were his family.
Muzaka smiled as M-21's words clicked.
"And what about parents?" He asked, this time in an amused tone.
The first people to come to M-21's mind were Frankenstein and Raizel.
Frankenstein did act with the authority of head-of-the-family and M-21 snorted at the thought.
While Frankenstein was a strict house owner, he went a step ahead to check on their health, provide them with healthy food, give them a job, and went out of his way to keep them safe (especially during their first visit to Lukedonia where Frankenstein was fighting Rajak and took a blow from Rael to protect the three of them).
Not to mention, he did teach them a few things like using their money wisely, to use their combat skills more efficiently and even train them.
Raizel might not converse much, but he showed how much he cares for them multiple times. Using his powers to keep them safe, providing them with comfort through small actions whether it be giving them a small snack or to give them a smile.
He knew whenever someone was feeling blue and reassured them, even guiding them by providing them with advice. One might miss these actions if they didn't think too much about it, but it was impossible to not be able to feel how much the Noblesse held them dear to his heart.
Muzaka seemed to look through M-21 and his smile widened.
"Good to see you have a great family," Muzaka chuckled, returning his gaze to the view in front of them.
"You're his friend," M-21 too turned his head towards the front too, but he watched Muzaka through the side of his eyes. "You're automatically part of the family."
For a moment, Muzaka's eyes widened before he smiled.
"Does that make me a father figure to you?" He joked, but clearly feeling much better than he had before.
"What? You want me to call you 'dad'?" M-21 snorted.
"That'll be great," Muzaka chuckled.
Bonus~
"Dad—"
Everyone in the room froze, heads turning to see M-21's amused look and Muzaka choking on his tea.
"When did that happen?" Tao had his eyes wide open as he glanced between the werewolves. Whether he was amused or confused, M-21 couldn't point out, but since this was Tao, he was probably both amused and confused.
"I got adopted earlier tonight," M-21 rolled his eyes, not bothering to hide the fact that he was smiling.
M-21 didn't mind calling Muzaka 'dad', but whenever he did, he caught Muzaka off-guard, which did amuse him.
But he was the one to be surprised when Muzaka began to call him 'my child'.
