'Where is he?' Zadie asked. Everyone stared at her as if she was a maniac.
Murray stepped forward; his sword full of blood. 'My deed here is done.'
Zadie brushed her fingertips along the Bloody scimitar before closing her eyes for a split second and opening them again. 'Now that you both got what you wanted, what more do seek? 'She asked, her tone hoarse.
'Aye, we agreed to help you sail to the French waters.' One of Nathaniel's crew spoke up. 'Our deed is not done until we deliver you to where you ought to proceed your journey '
Zadie gave a slight nod at the lad. 'Go rest, I'm certain you are all tired.'
Everyone left, leaving me with Zadie. There was a momentary silence between us. She sauntered towards the wheel and glanced down the water that was now oddly calm.
'Go rest, Blanchet.' She ordered. There was something about her tone that made me want to caress her. She is clearly exhausted, and her father's situation must have chipped off a piece of her heart.
I stood beside her. 'He was an adequate man, in his own way.'
'Do not comfort me with a lie, rather torture me with the truth for lying pleasures have the tendency of transitioning one's brain to a deranged state.' She faced me, her eyes staring at my chest down my stomach.
I watched as she walked away and grabbed a shirt from what looked like storage. She stalked towards me and tossed a ruffled shirt in my direction. She never said a word, but I got the memo. I slipped on the ruffled shirt, not bothering to Button it up.
'You must sleep Zadie, you are tired. '
She sighed. 'We are both tired.'
I glanced at my ship that was still beside us, I did not hesitate to jump from Nathaniel's ship to mine. I raised my eyebrow, daring Zadie to do the same. She shook her head before leaping. I fell hard to the ground as she jumped on top of me. Her head rested on my chest before abruptly bringing it up. Zadie gazed at my eyes. She is unapologetically straddling me, and I am quite aware that she is unaware of the situation.
'What did she look like?' Zadie asks before standing up from my lap. I stand up as well as I led her to my sleeping cabin.
Zadie sat down on my bed, glancing around the room. 'I should fetch some clothes for you to sleep in.' I tell her but she does not protest.
I wonder why she asked about my wife, suddenly. Some things are better left unsaid. I grabbed my travel bag and took out a sleeping dress from it. Zadie's fate is quickly turning into a reality and as much as it baffles me, I must figure out a plan on how to get the curse off her. I am not going home. Father had a château in the countryside of France. I shall begin my quest there. I should venture south of France, my butler there must know a thing or two.
I knock on the cabin and Zadie opens the oak door. I hand her the sleeping gown without a word, and she gladly accepts it with a faint smile. I step out, giving her more time and space to get dressed. There is something mysterious about her character, something is completely different, and it scares me. Where could the young and innocent Zadie be hiding? First, it was her eyes and now her being is slowly drifting away. All the qualities that make her human are slowly fading and I am afraid if that does not cease to occur, I might lose once was Zadie and be left with a shell of her.
After it awakened, I have been convincing myself that it is false. A mere human cannot possibly awaken the beast within me, but she is not just a mere human.
Zadie opens the cabin, disrupting my train of thought. 'It fits perfectly. Thank you, Alexander.'
I nod refraining from staring down at the dress she is wearing. 'Good.'
'It is quite strange for a man to have a woman's garment in his suitcases don't you think?' she walked inside and sat on the bed.
'It was yours. I packed clothes for you as well. 'I informed her, and her eyes widened in surprise. I smirked at her sudden reaction.
'Oh...'
'Save your breath and sleep daughter of the wolves.'
Zadie raised her eyebrow. 'Do not tell me what to do, defender of men.'
'Do not call me that.' I snapped.
Zadie furrowed her eyebrows. 'They called you that didn't they?' she asked. 'Alexander, defender of men. You were a...'
'Leader.' I finished her sentence. 'Do not say anything relating to my past life or ...'
'What?' Zadie stood up.' What could you possibly do to me? The past always catches up with us. The past defines our future Alexander. Keeping secrets will not help us in any way. Sacrifices must be made.'
'Have I not sacrificed enough ?!' I stalked towards her, but she remained in her place, never moving, or flinching anymore. I am proud of her confidence; it has its way of rendering me speechless Every single time I try to intimidate her. 'My wife has died, and my father left me an inheritance that I chose to abandon for my own protection. I have watched Kings die at my feet, powerful men and world leaders who dismally lead people astray!' my chest heaved up and down. Anger is radiating through my body.
'Yes, you have sacrificed enough! Everyone has. Why hide who you truly are Alexander? I understand that you have not explored more of your feelings, but you must. Please ?!' she begged.
Zadie just begged for me.
'How can you still see the good in me when I murdered your mother ?!'
Zadie scoffed. 'Oh, so you think the whole issue is about seeing the good in you. Listen here mister, 'she pointed her finger at me. 'You locked me in a cage, I starved, and I sure was stinking like a fish!'
'Zadie I'm- '
'Shut your mouth! I am not finished; I went into hiding and you sent one of your men to deceive me.' Zadie's eyes begin to water but she seems to not pay heed to it. 'Yes, I was wrong for throwing away the gold therefore I deserve punishment for it. But did I have to starve? Chained? Shamed in front of the whole of London. I was deceived my whole life; people of my kind are being sold as slaves in boats! 'Zadie ran her fingers through her hair. 'People resent me. I was practically a 'gift' given to Lady Crowe. I must walk around the whole of England like I am loved and adored when none of it is true!'
'Do you care what people think?' I stalked towards Zadie, but she stepped back.' I might be a monster, but I do not let people's thoughts define me.'
'You do not know what it is like being me nor every reject in society. The only reason I am doing this is that as much as I am rejected by society I will help and save people. Even if it means helping you to become your true self instead of concealing it '
I took a step forward and Zadie took one step back. I gently pushed her hands against the wall, trapping her with my hips and restricting any form of movement. It wants to communicate with her, but I do not know how to let it happen. I am not certain of its actions but just like Zadie said become your true self instead of concealing it. I have tamed it my entire life and it has been long since I let it free. The first time I did it, people got hurt and I cannot bear seeing her hurt. Slowly, I let it take over my being and emerge. Zadie's eyes have a soft glow to them upon seeing my true self. Canines were large, muscles bulged, and shirt ripped once again. Great.
'pulchra. adventum tuum exspectavi annis. i pertinent ad me et te mecum' .
Beautiful. I have waited for your arrival for years. I belong with you and you with me.
I let out a little growl, my finger brushed against Zadie's cheeks. She was no longer scared but a feeling of warmth flourished through her. I gently rubbed her thigh, faintly brushing my fingers against it as I trailed up. Her breathing pace increased, she began breathing heavily and stared deeper into my eyes which made me weak to my knees. I grabbed her hips hard, steadying myself by putting my hand on the wall above her head. I looked down at her, she is quite petite and is trapped perfectly by my heavy frame.
The staring contest begins. Zadie is staring deep into my eyes as I slowly let go of her hip. 'non me derelinquas'
Do not leave me.'
I warned.'
'aude mecum in tenebras, quia te excipit.'
venture with me to the darkness for it welcomes you.
I wiped her tear and kissed her forehead.
