'Alexander, what is going on? You just returned only to cause trouble upon your home!' Louis scolded. I sat up in my chair, raking my hands through my hair and trying my hardest not to think about Zadie.
'What is going on?' I mocked. 'The very same reason I refused to return was that I knew my father had unfinished battles he failed to conquer.'
Louis shook his head. 'Is that it? I thought you had a major crisis only to find out you just ran away from responsibilities.'
'Responsibilities? 'I abruptly stood up from my chair. 'I do not fight other people's battles.'
'But you fight Zadie's. '
My eyes widened in surprise. 'She is my responsibility. I gave her the darn curse and now look at where it got her. I care less about myself if she survives it that would be pleasing to my soul, and you know it.!'
'Guilt.' He sighed. 'It happens to the best of us.'
'How can you stand before me and utter these preposterous comments? If I seeked your opinion, I would have approached you, not the other way around.'
I grabbed my shirt and managed to wear it without ripping apart my sewn skin. However, I did not bother to Button it up.
'Son, you know very well that I am concerned about you. '
'Since when? 'I snapped.
'Since the day you hired me to work for you. Listen, son, I know your situation and I did just as you asked me.'
'Then what did you find?' I demanded as I stared deeper into his eyes.
Louis has aged. It has been years since I last saw him. Streaks of white are already claiming their territory over his natural dark hair. There are wrinkles on his eyes that says a lot about his age. He is beginning to falter right before me just like everyone else.
'Nothing new. It is all about finding the relic but- 'Louis ceased speaking. I am growing impatient.
'But what!'
'It explained nothing about her surviving the curse. It is all about a hidden sacrifice that comes at a cost.' He elaborated. 'I have asked people who know better than us and they too are not sure about the sacrifice nor the so-called hidden cost.'
'This is hopeless!' I kicked my chair hard enough for it to collide with the opposite wall. 'Do you know what will happen if Zadie dies? I would rather turn into a mad man than let her slip right through my fingers!'
'Alexander, are you sure this is about finding the relic or something else?'
'Something else like what?'
'well- 'Louis glanced behind him before whispering. 'Why would it awaken just by the sight of her?'
'It is not a love interest if that's what you are asking.' I scoffed.
'Denial.'
'Can you stop? You and Murray were designed to be a huge pain on my behind. I agreed to help Ms Zadie just as she agreed to help me.'
'Help you?' Louis raised an eyebrow. 'Help you in what way if I may ask.'
'No, you may not. Are you not supposed to be helping her around the Manor?' I asked.
'n'êtes-vous pas censé être au bordel?'
I sighed. 'Listen, Louis, I am extremely exhausted. I do not want to hear any more of your silly jokes.'
'Um...' Louis handed me a piece of paper. 'I do not think it is a joke. Judging by the number of men who littered the hallway I must say, your father really angered dangerous people.'
