I could think of only Zadie. I can still feel her, but she is distant. Celeste is not making any of this easier with her ranting in the carriage like it is going to make us reach Zadie in time.
'The scythe has been activated and I assume the Zadie you know is replaced by a new one.'
I scoffed. 'Do not speak nonsense, Zadie will always be Zadie. She is capable of something like this. '
'She might be different from us but that does not mean she is capable. I am a woman; I know what she is thinking and feeling right now. 'She snapped.
I shook my head as I glanced outside the carriage window. We rapidly pass by different buildings, and I am quite amused that this driver is faster than any driver I have met. It really is good to be home, but I hate the circumstances that brought me here I am in the first place.
'Zadie will be fine.' I whispered to myself. Luca is worried. Sometimes I wonder what could have happened if I did not meet Zadie at the ball. Luca and I were not willing to co-exist. He always wanted to do the opposite things of what I truly desired. He thought more about his pleasures than mine which made me abandon him.
But then Zadie changed everything. Just upon seeing her, he awakened. It ignited a spark in me I have not felt for years and ever since I have felt alive. I thought admitting it in front of her would make me look stupid and weak but as the hours go by, I crave her blabber mouth to annoy me for eternity.
'I just hope we find her before it's too late.'
'Nothing will ever be too late. Focus Celeste and have positivity for once.'
'There is no time for positivity when one's fate is death!'
'no one is going to die. What gift do you even possess?' I raised my eyebrow.' I have to say, you are bad at clairvoyance. '
'I am not gifted like my brothers, but I sure do have strong premonition senses.' She folded her arms against her chest and glared at me. 'If you wanted someone with a gift, you should have consulted my brothers and not me.'
'You agreed into helping me.'
'I did not. You terrified me into helping. I am not my great grandfather's best descendent. As you can see, I possess none of his gifts. '
'Basically, you are useless.' I stated.
The carriage halt near my manor and the huge dark cumulonimbus clouds are hovering over like a monster ready to feast on its last meal.
I quickly hopped out of the carriage and headed towards the main doors. Without hesitation, I yanked them open only to meet a distraught Louis sitting on the floor along with a familiar dead body.
'Louis!' I called out and he turned to face me. Rage was evident on his face. 'What happened ?!'
I stared down at the dead body next to him. I choked when the realization hit me. Murray is laying on the floor, with oozing out of his stomach and I assume he has been dead for a while.
'Zadie happened. She listened to my conversation with Murray. We were busy wondering why the scythe refused to activate but she secretly did without us knowing.' He explained.
'She killed Murray.'
'I did.'
My eyes widened in surprise. 'You are no killer, Louis; I know you did not kill him. Zadie did.'
'She did not, did. I am no killer because I respect your wishes, but it had to be done. I was the one who comforted Zadie while you were busy with other women. She is dying and now she is too far gone.'
'Why did you kill Murray?'
Louis shook his head. 'After all, I said all, you care about is Murray? He was after the scythe, Alexander! How about you ask me about Zadie instead of the nonsense you are asking me right now?'
'Where is she?' I asked sharply. 'Why did you fail to protect her ?!'
'Do not put the blame on me!' Louis shouted as he stood up. 'She is your responsibility. You tortured the poor girl; she has been spending her entire time running away from you and now that she is on the brink of death you want to assist her.'
'Ah, so she is the lady who stole your gold.' Celeste spoke up. I even forgot she was here.
'Now who is this? Your new female companions?'
'I am here to assist Mr Blanchet with Zadie. Isn't she the future Ms Blanchet?' she asked, raising her eyebrow.
'Not until I find her.'
'How are you going to find her when you do not know where she is?' Louis picked up the revolver on the floor. 'Why do you always love to play the hero but refuse to recognise your mistakes, Blanchet ?!'
'I never said I am a hero.' I protested.
Louis analysed his gun. 'Everything you touch dies. Not an easy death but a horrible one.'
'I have acknowledged that many years ago long before you were even born.'
Celeste stepped forward. 'Louis, we need to find Zadie immediately.'
'Let her be!' Louis pointed the revolver at celeste. She glanced back at me in horror as she slowly raised her hands up.
'Louis, what madness is this ?!'
'You wanted to kill Zadie. Are you elated now?' he challenged.
'I admit it, I wanted to kill her but not anymore. '
'Louis, I beg you, let go of the gun.' Celeste begged. 'If you Don't do it, Zadie is going to die.'
Louis lowered the gun, but he was still lost in his thoughts. Louis would never act like this. He must be traumatised from seeing Zadie being a different person or when Murray betrayed him. Something is wrong with him, and I need to get the gun out of his clutches before he does something he is going to regret.
'She is not going to die; she is safe where she is.' he whispered.
'How do you know that?' celeste asked him. 'Did you communicate with her before her departure?'
'Yes.'
Celeste slowly approached Louis. 'What did she say?'
'She does not trust anyone. 'He blurted out.
Celeste brushed his cheek lightly and retrieved the gun from his hands. 'Now tell me, where is she?'
Celeste stared deep into Louis's eyes. Now I know what gift she possesses. Seduction. She masters the art of seduction.
'The mountains, old Blanchet manor.'
'Why the old Blanchet manor?' I asked but he refused to spare a glance at me.
'I assume that is where the Scythe has been residing at the time of your father's death.' Celeste suggested. She might be correct, but I regard it as a strange thing. I have never seen any clues to this matter which baffles me deeply.
'It is your decision, Blanchet.' Celeste added. 'We have to leave before it's too late.'
