PROLOGUE

Ayden clutched the arms of the buttery soft leather chair he was sitting in as he waited for Alpha Derrick to focus his attention on him, his mind already conjuring up images of the rejection he knew he was about to receive.

"Ayden."

Ayden jumped at the sound of his name being called and jerked his head up to face the now smirking Alpha. The expression faded almost as soon as it touched his lips , almost as if he was remembering the seriousness of their discussion.

"Ayden, do you care about the well being of our pack?"

"Y-Yes."

" You already know that I just received the title of Alpha a year ago after my father lost his life?"

Yes . . . everyone knows that."

"Well did you know that the only reason I became Alpha is because I was handpicked by my father to take his place and everyone was still in shock that he was betrayed by his Beta and killed by the hunters?"

The Alpha paused to study the younger boy in front of him for minutes, assuring himself that he had his full attention before continuing.

"Because of this I have to prove myself to the elders or else they would undermine me at every turn . . . and as the Alpha I have to do what is best for the pack, don't you agree?"

"Are you rejecting me?"

"Of course not. You know as well as I do that to reject you means that I would die."

I . . . I don't understand."

"Then I'll make it clear for you, you will be my mate, but only when I decide I'm ready and even that time comes you will just be but one of many."

B-But we're fated to be mates . . . you can't just __________________!"

"I am the Alpha! I give the orders and anyone who chooses to go against me will suffer the consequences."

"Consequences? What are you going to_____________?"

"I am simply going to give you what you want Ayden. Until I decide that I am ready to mate with you, I forbide you to let anyone else touch you . . . even if they are your family members or friends and you will immediately gather your belongings and leave your parent's home to come here and live with me."

"Alpha, please."

"The punishment will stand Ayden . . . just remember whatever happens to you is your own fault."

"Why?"

"What?"

"What did I do for you to hate me so much? Is it because I'm a guy?"

"Ayden."

"Because I'm weak?"

"Ayden."

"Is it because I'm an Omega?"

Ayden, stop."

"Please! Please if you don't want to mate with me, just let me go! Let me leave the pack!"

"I have made my decision! Now go and home and gather your things. My Beta. will come to get you in an hour to escort you back here."

Lowering his head, Ayden slowly rose from his chair and made his way to the door.

"I'll never forgive you for this."

Before the Alpha could reply, Ayden was out the door and running in the direction of his home.

'Oh my sweet, beautiful Ayden I could never hate you, but I could never be your mate either. There are so many things that you do not understand yet . . . if you did you would run and never look back.'

CHAPTER 1

Ayden's pov

I woke up gasping for breath, to the sounds of moaning and growling from the room next door to mine. Rubbing my face wearily, I slowly got out of bed and made my way to the bathroom, looking at myself in the mirror and letting out a sigh. The bags under my eyes had gotten darker and even I had to admit that I was paler and thinner than usual. A sudden burst of heat nearly brought me to my knees and I had to clutch the sink to avoid hitting the floor, panting for breath and shivering as heavy waves of desire and lust threatened to overwhelm me. As soon as I was able to stand, I made my way over to the shower, turning it on with a trembling hand and climbing in; letting the ice cold water cool my body and calm my mind.

"Ayden!"

I jumped at the anger in the Alpha's tone and rushed back into my room pulling out the first thing in my closet and quickly getting dressed. As I made my way downstairs I heard the giggly voice of Tara, my biggest rival and the Alpha's deep seductive voice. I reached the last step, taking a deep breath to steady my nerves and entered the dining room where they were both seated at the large formal table waiting for me.

"What took you so long?"

Ignoring Tara's annoying high pitched voice I turned my attention to the Alpha.

"What do you need?"

"Before I answer that, I believe the lady asked you something."

"Please."

"Well?"

"I . . . I-I_________________."

The Alpha seemed to take pity on me for the moment and sent me to the kitchen to make them breakfast. Scurrying away I quickly gathered the ingredients I needed to make omelets and got to works. I had just finished and was carrying the food to the dining room when another unexpected wave of heat caused me to drop the plates I was carrying as my body fell to the floor shaking uncontrollably. I heard footsteps and the Alpha's voice calling my name, but I couldn't respond or move as if I had lost all control of my body. As warm gentle hands lifted me up everything finally went black.
