Carlisle's pov
Leaving the prisoner restrained, I made my way to the tent I was sharing with
Jasper and pushed open the flap to find him sitting on the small cot crying into his hands. I walked over to him and placed a hand on his arm, annoyed when he stiffened at my touch. I dropped the knife at his feet and he lowered his hands staring at the knife silently."Why did you use silver on him?"
"Is he dead?"
"You'd like that, wouldn't you?"
"I'd like my mate to be here in my arms! I'd like to be free from all this pain! You'll never understand how I feel!"
"Lonny was my brother, do you think I'm happy he's dead?"
Jasper flinched at my cold tone before bravely lifting his gaze to mine.
"But you have me all to yourself now, don't you?"
"And what good is that? What good is it to finally have you, if you're going to keep mourning for the one you love more than me . . . why did the moon goddess give us the same mate?!"
"Why didn't you let me go then? I would have been happier."
I let out an angry growl and Jasper backed away from me.
"Is that why you came to me again and again, offering yourself to me? Because you loved him so much? Is that why you lied to him even when he could smell my scent on you? You're so selfish . . . I can't look at you right now."
Ignoring Jasper's pleas for me not to leave him alone I stalked out of the tent making my way back to the boy who was just waking up.
"How are you feeling?"
"It . . . It hurts."
"It's the silver . . . you'll feel better soon."
"S-Silver?"
"Don't worry . . . I'll take care of it."
Putting my hands in the pockets of my jeans, I pulled out several large beetles and biting into my fingers, I fed them several drops of my blood. As soon as they started seeking more, I ripped the boy's shirt off and placed the bugs everywhere he'd been stabbed, causing him to hiss quietly.
"What . . . What is it?"
"They're called blood beetles. They feed on the blood of supernatural creatures to remove poison. Its going to hurt, but it's the only way."
The boy nodded his head, clutching the bark of the tree and letting out a whimper of pain. I heard footsteps behind me, but refused to turn around, keeping my attention focused on the boy in front of me.
"Why are you here, Jasper?"
"I wanted to . . . I shouldn't have__________."
"I don't care. Just go back to the tent."
"Not until you forgive me."
"No. I think it's time for me to move on. I'm not going to be your second choice anymore."
Jasper starred at me in shock, shaking his head as he approached me.
"That's not_____________!"
A loud moan cut him off and we both turned in the direction of the sound. Jasper's eyes widened in disbelief and I let an amused grin cross my lips at the sight of the boy's body writhing against the tree.
"Are you okay kid?"
Letting out another loud moan, the boy gasped something I couldn't understand.
