I was kind of surprised that Alpha Dominic contacted me, after all he was the one who sent me away without reason or explanation. For several seconds I thought about ignoring his summons, but a single name pushed aside my anger: Kareen. I missed him so much, even though he'd refused to be my mate we remained friends.
"The idiot is back."
That simple sentence sent anger rushing through me and my hand tightened around my phone.
"What is he doing there? You said he wasn't allowed to return after what he did."
"He had the white wolf with him. His name's Ayden."
"You mean_______________?"
"That's right, the one we've been waiting for. He's here and he's friends with Kareen."
"I don't understand, how______?"
"Zander mated him."
A low growl escaped me and I had to fight to keep my wolf under control.
"He betrayed Kareen again . . . I'll kill him."
"And you don't mind Kareen hating you?"
"Of course I do . . . why did you call me, Dominic? After all this time, you called me to let me know that Zander was back and Kareen's still in love with him . . . I'm hanging up now."
"Kareen needs you. I wouldn't call if it wasn't for him."
I let out a sigh, he had me right where he wanted me and we both knew it.
"Fine, I'll be there by nightfall."
Hanging up before he could reply, I dropped the phone on my bed, glaring at it as if it had caused my problems, before a sudden smile crossed my lips. I was going to see Kareen! After five years I finally get to see him again! I closed my eyes, letting my mind drift to the first time we met. I was coming back from patrolling the borders when something told me to go to the garden and that's when I saw him . . . the delicate, fragile beauty, know as Kareen. Of course he wasn't happy with me invading his privacy and he yelled at me to leave , but I couldn't do it . . . I had to know more about him, I had to get closer to him.
"My name's Lewis, what's yours?"
"I wish to be alone."
"Well, that's a strange name."
He sighed, turning away and it was then that I noticed the tears falling on the stone of the bench he was sitting on.
"Please, don't cry . . . whatever it is, it'll work out."
"Do you truly believe that? Do you truly believe that your words will make everything better?"
"I__________."
He suddenly lifted his head and sniffed the air, his body stiffening and the tears falling a little faster.
"Kareen, why did you run from me? I've been looking for you everywhere."
"You rejected me, Zander . . . I do not wish to be near you."
"Stop acting so childish. I already explained why I have to do this."
"Your reasons do not matter, Zander. You have used me and thrown me away for the last time. If you have to leave then go, but do not seek me out again."
Without waiting for a response, Kareen stood and walked away. My eyes followed him until a possessive growl caught my attention.
"Keep your eyes and hands off of him."
