I'll spend forever
Wondering if you knew
I was enchanted to meet you

The air was cold, so cold it felt dry. You woke up slowly, lazily wiping the tiredness from your eyes. After yawning twice in a matter of seconds, you realized that getting up soon wasn't an option. "A few more minutes", you told yourself before dozing off again to the soft sound of rain.

You woke up to the obnoxious sound of the doorbell. It was no longer raining, but the air seemed to have grown even colder. Groaning, you grabbed your pillow and put it over your head, trying to muffle the sound. It proved to be useless though, as whoever was ringing your doorbell didn't seem to be going away anytime soon.

"Coming!", you yelled, trying to make yourself heard from outside.

You slipped on a pair of bunny slippers and threw on an old cardigan on top of your pyjamas, dragging yourself down the stairs.

The bell rang again and you pulled the door open with a scowl.

"What?" you growled, but your gaze softened upon realizing it was Todd.

Todd was your partner for a science project. You two didn't know each other well but both your grades were – as your teacher would always praise – exemplar, so she paired you two together. If he was at your place, that could only mean-

"You missed class today," he said matter of factly. You cursed under your breath, not realizing that until then. "I thought you were sick or something, but by the looks of it..."

"Yeah, I overslept, I'm sorry. I don't handle the cold very well."

Todd chuckled, shaking his head. "It's fine, I didn't come here to scold you. Actually, I thought we could get some work done. I have a few ideas that..."

You weren't listening anymore, only nodding whenever it felt right. You liked Todd and it was nice to have a partner that cared so much about your project, especially when you were so used to doing all the work whenever you had to work with someone else, but he did have the tendency to get carried away.

"-and maybe a potato could be exactly it."

"Yes, absolutely. Potato."

He seemed convinced by your answer and you almost felt bad for zoning out.You looked behind Todd towards your open door, the breeze coming in was anything but nice and you found yourself beginning to shiver regardless of the fuzzy cardigan you were wearing.

"Would you like to come in?" you offered, praying that he would either accept it and get in fast, or refuse and get the hell out before your nipples decided to make an appearance.

He sighed, stepping in before even saying anything. "I thought you would leave me here to freeze."

An hour into working on your project, you two decided it was enough progress for the day. You realized you were in a much better mood than earlier, partially for feeling that your day hadn't completely gone to waste, but also because Todd had proved to be very pleasant to be around. It was almost like the two of you didn't want the day to end, you never once thought about trying to hint at him to leave, and he surprise you by starting a conversation about his boyfriend.

"So this is what having friends feels like", you thought to yourself, biting back a tiny smile.

It's not like you were a loner before, but after moving to Nockfell you hadn't made any effort to fit in, simply because you missed your hometown. Moving there was never your choice, but rather your mom's. She was an English teacher, and after being unemployed for half a year, she received the job offer that brought the two of you here.
