Is it me, was I wrong to have trusted you?
Did I see what I wanted, what wasn't true?
Was I wrong to go on like a little fool?
It's amazing what women in love will do

The universe was often not on your side, but Jesus Christ, having four drivers in a row cancel on you had to be a new level of conspiracy.

When you finally arrived at the station, nearly an hour late, Larry was outside smoking a cigarette. He looked stressed out, his hair a mess from running his fingers through it repeatedly, and there was something so visibly exhausted about him that your anxiety immediately worsened.

He threw his half-finished cigarette onto the ground and snuffed it out with his boot before opening the station door for you, not saying a word. You had never seen Larry so distressed, so whatever Sal had done, it had to have been serious.

"Try not to tick him off," he pleaded as you approached the holding cells, lowering his voice. "Not saying you'd do it on purpose, but he's so fucking enraged right now. I can think of a hundred things that might trigger him."

You nodded, gulping. Every second made you more nervous, the steps toward Sal seemed endless and fast approaching at the same time, your heartbeat growing louder with each one.

He was leaning against the wall, arms crossed over his chest, looking absolutely unbothered while Ash wiped drying tears from her cheeks, only for fresh ones to replace them.

Sal, on the other hand, looked collected. He must've calmed down, you thought. Whatever had happened, maybe the worst of it had passed.

But then he saw you, and his eyes immediately narrowed. He scoffed. "Took you fucking long enough."

For a second, you just stared at him. The disbelief came first, followed almost instantly by a hot, sharp wave of offense that crawled up your chest. You had spent nearly an hour trying to get there, four drivers had cancelled on you, you had no idea what the fuck was happening, and you had still came running the second you heard he needed you. You didn't have to be here. He was the one who had called for you.

Your jaw clenched. It took everything in you not to tell him exactly where he could shove his lack of gratitude, but you remembered Larry's words, so instead you took a slow breath through your nose.

"You said you needed me, and here I am," you said calmly. Too calmly. "What happened?"

"I got arrested, in case you haven't noticed." He rolled his eyes.

Your hands curled into fists, nails digging into your palms. Breathe.

"I didn't ask you here to talk," he continued, his voice bitter. "If you think being here gave me some fucking epiphany and I suddenly realized I need you back in my life because I'm making terrible decisions without you, you can save yourself the humiliation and stop looking at me like I might leave this place holding your hand."

Motherfucking ouch. That one hurt.

"Careful there, you still need something from me." You said it like a threat, but your voice was too flat to be one.

"Y/N..." Larry warned.

You waved him off, keeping your eyes on Sal. "What is it, Sal?"
