POV: Shinobu was the one that met Tanjiro and Nezuko on the mountain that night and Tanjiro reminded her so much of her sister she decided to take them in herself.
It's winter. The flu is going around and these dumb overworked Pillars all caught it. Shinobu too unfortunately, because she had a joint mission with Mitsuri who accidentally got her sick(she's apologized too many times to count now)
Tanjiro volunteers to take care of them all because he's the least afraid of them. He also works with Kanao when she isn't out in mission.
But most importantly Shinobu influenced Tanjiro taking care of sick Pillars.
