Okay okay, hear me out.
Tanjiro doesn't stay at Saburo's.  He walks home, and gets attacked(by Muzan) on the way up the mountain.
Muzan decides he's gonna kill him, cuz, y'know, asshole.
But by some goddamn miracle(Main Character syndrome) Tanjiro survives
Here's the thing, Muzan tried to kill him but giving him WAY too much blood.  Like WAY too much, cuz, he got pissy cuz Tanjiro looks like Yorichii and temper and yea
Anywho
Tanjiro wakes up, but there's another voice in his head
Unfortunately he does NOT take the time to listen to that voice and goes rampaging round the mountain for something to eat.  Kills a couple hibernating squirrels, munches on a fox.  Okay he has some semblance of peace of mind.  I mean not really but he can think actually thoughts besides 'HUNGRYHUNGRYHUNGRY' at least
Back to the whole second voice thing
It's Yorichii
I'm not even gonna try to build up or anything, it is Yorichii's conscience.

Basically, when Tanjiro was almost killed by Muzan he got close enough to death for Yorichii who had been watching over him to take his souls hand to guide him to the afterlife.  But.  The sheer amount of blood given to him turned him into such a strong demon so fast that he starts regenerating.
So his soul get sucked back into his body the same way you slurp up cup ramen and Yorichii got dragged in with it

Anyways, meanwhile Giyuu is hunting him cuz
Demon
Demon Slayer
Demon Slayer slays the Demon
You get it

Point is.  Tanjiro and Giyuu kinda know each other in the way a victim knows their stalker.
Tanjiro knows he's being hunted.
Giyuu knows Tanjiro knows.
It's a wackass relationship

And then Tanjiro disappears

He's not on the mountain

He's not dead

He's just
Gone

Nah Muzan caught wind cuz....  Idfk cuz hes Muzan shut up okay plot holes are a stories pockets
SO Muzan was like, wait holy FUCK that kids ALIVE?! I turned Yorichii's ancestor into a super demon????  AW FUCK YEAH BEST REVENGE EVER
So he kidnaps him(demonnaps?)

And Tanjiro wakes up

With upper moon zero carved into his left eye

And fucking MUZAN sitting next to him introducing him to the upper moons like it's a kindergarten class and the next step is for him to say his name and his favorite color

He and Yorichii are rightfully pissed

And proceed to go on a violent rampage in front of all the upper moons managing to actually successfully wound Muzan a few times which is
Y'know
A pretty big deal

Anywayyyyysssssssssssss no clue how most of the middle of this story goes cuz that shits hard sooo
He gets locked up in isolation to starve so when Muzan let's him out he'll obey(spoiler alert it doesn't fucking work)

Blah blah blah

Big showdown

Hashira vs remaining Upper moons, Muzan there to be evil and shit

And then he's like,

"But wait!

There's more!”

Cute the evil monologue skipping ahhheeeaaaadddddd he brings out

Anyways, per the previous spoiler, Tanjiro basically spits in Muzan face as tells him to go fuck himself before making a run for it to go find his family because GUESS WHAT

I forgot to mention this earlier but he lost all his human memories in his transformation y'know as one doeessss

BUT

isolation meaaannnnnttt HE REMEBERED

(don't ask me I don't know)

So anyways, uh, mid running off in what he THINKS is the general direction of home someone calls out his full name.

So he pauses and turns around, cuz that wasn't Muzan, and the demons only knew his first name.

It was Giyuu :)

CUE THE TENTATIVE AWKWARD REUNION OF PEOPLE WHO KNEW EACH OTHER BUT WERE NEVER REALLY CLOSE

Buh buh buhbuhbuh
They beat the shit out of Muzan
Tanji is returned home OP as shit and it's a happily ever after

Like there's more stuff in between but that's the gist of it
