Ruby lay asleep in her own bed. The morning sun's light shined through her window and onto her bed and the wall behind her. Ruby slowly opened her eyes and looked around. When she did, she saw a blonde-haired man sitting in a chair, asleep, next to her bed. The man was her father, Taiyang. Ruby slowly pushed herself to sit up and the rustling of her movement woke up Taiyang

Taiyang: Ruby!

Taiyang got up from his seat and ran the few steps to Ruby's bed. He then knelt down beside her and began reaching out a hand to her

Taiyang: you're awake!

Ruby: what happened?

Taiyang sighs

Taiyang: your uncle Qrow found you unconscious after he was sent on a search with Erza. He got you outta there though, he got you home safe

Ruby: wait! Yang! Is she alright?

Taiyang: uh... she's uh... she's gonna be alright. I think she's just... I think it's just gonna take some time for her to get used to things. She's too strong to let this stop her

Taiyang hides his face behind his hand and sniffles. He then wipes the tears that began to crawl from his eyes and look back up at Ruby

Taiyang: I'm just glad to have my girls back at home

Ruby: what happened to the school! And Vale! Were they able to clear out the Grimm?

Taiyang: things at Vale are under control. But the school? It's... it's not that simple. That thing, whatever it is... doesn't seem to be dead. Don't get me wrong, you did a number on it. But... it's not disappearing. It's... kind of... frozen. I know that doesn't sound too bad, but it keeps attracting more Grimm to the school

Ruby looked to her father in confusion

Ruby: I did what?

Taiyang: hmm?

Ruby: you said I did a number on it. What do you mean?

Taiyang: I... look, that's not important right now, we can talk about it later. Things are just... kind of a mess

Qrow: it's always a mess

Taiyang looked over his shoulder and Ruby looked up to see Qrow standing at the door, drinking from his flask. Qrow empties the flask and shakes it to make sure he got every drop

Qrow: mind if we have a minute?

Taiyang: what, I can't stay here?

Qrow: Tai. Please

Taiyang got up and sighed before kissing Ruby's forehead

Taiyang: I'm glad you're alright

Taiyang then turned around and walked towards the door

Taiyang: I'll go check on Dakkon, then make us some tea

Ruby: what? Dakkon?

Taiyang shot Qrow a glare as he walked past. Qrow then walked closer to Ruby's bed and started dragging a chair behind him. Qrow placed the chair in front of him and sat down on it, crossing his legs

Qrow: so... how you feeling?

Ruby: um... I kind of hurt... all over

Qrow laughed to himself
