See You Again

Chapter 1

Carter POV
"Hey I'll be back in two years it's not that long it will fly by okay I'll send letters every week" I gave my sister a hug, she was crying into my uniform, I squatted down "listen, Abby and Ethan will be here with you and for you, plus I'll write to you just how I normally talk to you, and hey here's the keys to my truck, happy early sixteenth birthday" she took the keys then hugged me. When I finally got detached from her I gave my parents a quick hug.
"How was Casey?" Casey was also jake's twin sister, she had lovely brown hair and blue eyes, she looked great in a softball uniform. "Wouldn't stop crying, how was Emily" this was the first time I have left Emily home alone with my parents I won't really be there for her, "same, but hey I'm gonna sleep a little before we get to Germany" we had to stop by Germany before Afghanistan.

So it's been a couple days and I've been on a couple patrols, nothing has happened, so I was currently writing my letter to home. 'So there isn't much to it, I haven't had to fire my gun yet so I guess that will make you happy, jake is doing good, he just took a picture of me writing so maybe you will see it, our room is me, him, our sergeant John and our mechanic blake. They're all older than us but we all get along well together, all though when I put on my country music they all complain. John is the oldest and he likes to play cards and drink beer, blake loves science and is a nerd like you but he is really cool,but hey I miss you guys and I'll see you in 724 days'.
*** Emily's POV***
I was in English class reading the letter that carter had sent me, I hadn't slept in awhile just because I'm scared but I know that if this letter is good then maybe I'll sleep better. I smiled as I heard it wasn't bad and that he didn't have to use his gun yet, I laughed when he said they complain about his country music, he is the only one I know that listens to country. "Ms. Gaines please share with us what is so funny because I'm pretty sure Juliet killing herself wasn't funny" I could feel my cheeks start to heat up from embarrassment "umm my brother deployed and his roommates there don't like his country music, sorry for interrupting the class ma'm" I pulled out a piece of paper and started writing.
'Dear carter,
So just got in trouble for laughing at your letter, of course they wouldn't like your country music you are like the only one that listens to it. I am not a nerd I am just smart, I'm glad it's boring over there, tell jake I said hi and thank him for my new lock screen, it's the only way I get to see you everyday, I miss you, please be safe over there, tell jake to be safe too ~ Emily' I put the paper back into my binder that way it wouldn't get messed up and that way I would remember to mail it.
***Carter POV***
It's been about two months and I've now seen how bad it can get over here, jakes vehicle got hit by an IED last week and he didn't die but they sent him back because he lost a leg, he wanted me to come but I told him no, this was my job now no woosing out.
'Hey so I'm sorry to ask this from you and Casey but can you give me updates about jake, and can you take care of him. I miss you guys and hey Emily happy birthday I miss you so much, tell mom and dad I love them, tell everybody I said hi, I have to go out patrolling they are doubling them but I write these at nights now so I'll get one in every week' I really felt bad that I am having them do this when I couldn't, I was supposed to be there for jake and all I could do was drag him out and put him in my vehicle.
"Hey private come over here" I looked up at sergeant right after I finished putting the letter in the envelope, I dropped it into the mail bag then walked over to him "yes sir" I sat in the chair across from him, "we are ranking you up to lance corporal, here are your new ranks put them on all of your stuff and hey get some sleep" I nodded then shook his hand, we did our salute then I walked back to my bed where all my stuff was.

So there is only a week left on my tour and everything has slowed down, it is now like the first days when I got here, I haven't eased up though, sure my mind was ready to go home but it had to stay alive to do that.
"Gaines take point, on my go" I went up to the door of the building, he counted down from three and I kicked open the door, I heard something hit the ground then yelled out grenade, everyone ran out while I had to sprint and jump out. I got up quickly and shot the guy that was about to gun us down, I cleared the building, there were only three guys. I ran back down to where we had ran out and checked everybody, "you good?" I asked that about twenty times and everybody nodded there head yes. I jogged over to where my sergeant and captain were, "everyone is good and accounted for, I cleared out the building and there were only three people all armed and I had to shoot sorry" they parted my shoulder and then spoke "thanks Gaines now let's get everyone back to base, can you round everyone up" I nodded then went back to where our guys were.

They haven't made us go outside base for the last two days, we leave tonight so I was currently finishing packing my bag, "hey sergeant thanks for everything" he nodded then patted my back. I had my uniform on and my duffel bag on my shoulder and my phone and earphones in my hand.

We got to Germany and it was nice and sunny, I didn't go sight see with the other guys I just hoped onto the first flight back to Texas. I hadn't told anyone I was coming home this week they actually think it's next month, I wanted to be able to surprise them so in a couple of hours I will probably be crying while holding Emily and seeing Jake.
