See You Again

Chapter 9

It's different being with everybody, this is the longest I have been here in the states since I joined the military, it's hard to believe I have been here for two months, the day goes by quickly unlike over there. I know most parents would just want their kids to be quiet and stop crying but every time I hear him cry it just reminds me that this isn't all a dream. I get to see casey everyday and I never stop missing her when she leaves for work, everything is great the only thing I'm dreading is the future call when they tell me to go back.

"Happy thirtieth birthday!!" I woke up wide eyed, I totally forgot it's my birthday. "It's my birthday ??" Kyle and Casey laughed, I got out of bed and forgot I only had my boxers on "umm I'll get changed and be right out" truth was I really didn't mind walking around in my boxers because I did that all the time when I was deployed.
"Thanks guys" I tried on my new watch from Kyle, I got a lot of hoodies and shorts from my family, I think someone told them my normal attire when I'm on deployment. "Hey isn't it the high school reunion tonight?" Jake and casey nodded and I smiled, I haven't gotten to spend quality time with friends because of Erick and just because I've been away too long.

When we walked in there was a bunch of pictures showing on the wall, I laughed when it was the picture of me and jake when we were first deployed, we were making sand Angels. "That was probably the best day there Jake" I patted his back then walked off to where casey was talking to some girls.
"Hello ladies" I wrapped my arms around Casey's waist and set my head on hers. "You two going out yet?" Me and Casey laughed then nodded our head yes. "You guys are so cute together, hey Carter didn't you have-" my friend Hannah was cut off by my phone ringing, I hit answer.
"Yes sir" this was the call I was dreading, "no I can be at base in an hour and a half at the least" I hung up then realized I didn't step away from the girls. "Ummm...." I didn't know what to say, but casey just gave me a hug. I know it breaks her heart every time and I hated doing it but I always do my best to come back. "Well hey I'll take Jake's truck then you can get it from base tomorrow, when I see you again it will hopefully be in twelve months" I ran out to Casey's car and grabbed everything I would need and put it in Jake's truck.
I finished putting my uniform on and remembered that I didn't tell everyone goodbye yet.
***casey POV***
I just sat at a table after Carter ran out, I sat there messing with my ring trying to not let my fear of him dying seep its way back into my mind. I heard someone call my name and looked up to see Carter in his uniform, he jogged over to me and wiped some of my tears away "I love you" he gave me the most passionate kiss and then left, I sat back down knowing he wouldn't come running back to kiss me like that again. Me and some girls danced on the dance floor and I tried to just clear my mind and enjoy this night with old friends. "He's a fighter Casey, don't worry about him too much, he's been fighting to see you every time, hey maybe this is his last one" Jake gave me a hug which I really needed.
***11 months three weeks***
"Hey mrs. Turner any news from our favorite marine" I loved my advisory kids this is their senior year so they got to see me be surprised by Carter and they loved him mainly because he was funny. "He's still alive and a just a few more weeks till he gets back" they nodded "well we know that we see him right now" I turned and saw Carter but he had a cast on left leg, I let out tears of joy and started waving at my students "stop surprising me, and what happened" I gave him a hug. "I jumped off of a building, huh never thought I'd say that but hey I told you I would be back" my class laughed and I sat him down in my desk chair. "This chair is comfy, ooh I'm the teacher now" he had an evil smirk on his face and once again my class laughed.
***carter POV***
I did jump off a building but that's not how I broke my leg, I was taken away and beaten for nine months and they kept me at the base for a month to recover, but she didn't need to know that.
"Want me to go and get you some lunch?" I pushed some hair out of her face and sat her in my lap, "I'll go with you, what do you want?" I laughed "I've been craving Wendy's" she laughed then we held hands as we walked through the halls during lunch time. "Hey mrs. T you looking good and hey this your brother" I turned and laughed "I'm her husband and damn I didn't even have enough balls to tell her I had a crush on her until about two years after high school" I turned back around and me and Casey laughed.

"I love burgers and fries" casey laughed at me as I devoured two hamburgers, "damn did they not feed you over there" not for nine months until I got rescued, but I didn't say that. "So I'm guessing your students still love you, I mean not as much as they like me but hey your their second favorite person" she laughed then nodded, she had the look of sadness on her face "what's wrong?" I held her hand and she looked up at me "do you have to go back?" I shrugged my shoulders I really didn't know and honestly I didn't want to know.
