Being a sniper is hard, I found that out on our last mission but I also found out that Chris Kyle was right when he said "marines- you beat them down and they come back for more" Connor had told me that, he was reading the book "American Sniper" it's given us a lot of help and you know I looked up to Chris. When we were out on our last mission me and Connor had been out there an hour before our platoon came in, let's just say we were already in a fire fight, we had to take out a sniper across the mountains and it had gotten us a lot of attention from the enemy below, Connor was shot in the leg yet he wasn't freaking out he just kept firing back. After an hour of fighting by ourselves our fellow marines came in and helped us totally kick ass. We got Connor and two other injured marines out before we advanced into the city, I went in with the guys since my spot was compromised and no reason for me to try and hide again.
After spending three hours inside the city me and the guys had cleared the city and moved onto the next one that only takes two days to get there. I would have to take a separate squad of marines to come and help me snipe so we divided up into five teams. It was me as Bravo, we were the sniper and scout squad. Alpha who would enter the city first and also navigate us to the city. Charlie which consisted of EOD guys and a medic just in case we needed some assistants in that area. Delta, just out other assault team and a medic. Then there was echo which consisted of one from every group we had, one sniper, one scout, a medic, EOD, and a navigator, if we needed support they would be the second to last ones in, my squad would be the last to enter and that was when we had almost every team pinned which was highly unlikely to happen.
When we had gotten there I thought of everything I had learned at sniper training, it helped so much. Our whole platoon would have been erased if we hadn't gotten rid of the guys with RPGs, we had to head back down the mountain early because we had a machine gun firing at us but we just relocated while two marines handled the machine gun problem.
I was zeroed in on the kid that was about thirteen, he held an AK-47 I didn't want to pull the trigger but I did and when I saw it hit I didn't even flinch, I didn't want to do it but I had to look out for my team, I didn't care if people back home saw me as a monster I know my brothers in arms don't think of me like that.
When we had gotten back I had called home immediately because I knew I had missed Eric's birthday yesterday. I put my computer on the little dresser I had and pulled a chair up to sit down. I started taking off all my gear when I heard Casey singing. Kyle was standing there with thumbs up and I knew exactly what he did, this guy sure knew how to make me laugh, so did Casey. After a few minutes I finally busted out laughing, Casey turned around and she looked shocked as fuck but also relieved. She started crying but I don't know why but then she picked up her computer and turned it around and I saw Connor in uniform, I didn't know they would get him back that quickly, at least he will get a few weeks back home before he has to come home. "I thought you died, Connor said it was getting bad when you got him out" all I told him to tell her was that I was okay. "I'm fine babe, but hey how long is Connor back for, I could send some stuff back if he wants me to" now the computer was outside and Connor was back on the screen, "I won't be going back there, they found out I have PTSD, and they won't let me go back, I'm sorry cap, but hey how did the rest of the mission go?" I took off my helmet and shook all the dirt off of my head. "A big fire fight, you remember Jack?" Jack was our favorite guy out here from Britain, he was a hell of a fighter. "Yeah why?" I tired to hold back the tears but they came out anyways, I think I gave it away by the tears but I had to man up and tell him "he died today from an ambush on the way back, he stepped on an IED, we tried everything but the medics couldn't do anything, I'm sorry" he nodded then said good bye and also told me to change my shirt before I talked to Eric.
I changed into a hoodie and then talked to Casey for a few minutes just because Eric wasn't home yet because of baseball practice. "so everything is okay, you're okay?" I smiled at her, "ya i don't leave base tonight so I'm all safe right now" i plugged my laptop into the charger then there was a big boom, I knew it wasn't EOD guys because i could feel the shock wave, so that means they dumped it too close. I grabbed my assault rifle then ran to where we stored the ammo.
"babe I'll call you later tell Eric I said hi, I love you okay" she nodded then started crying, Connor came up on the screen and i knew he saw the gun so he knew exactly what was going on, he nodded his head at me and at that moment I knew he was going to take care of Casey for me.
