See You Again

Chapter 2

So I only told Jake that I was gonna be back this week so we hung out until about noon when I would go to Emily's school to surprise her. I wore my USMC t-shirt and jeans, I bought her a bouquet of flowers and then I left for Emily's school, I heard Casey works there as a student teacher too so maybe I'll get lucky and I'll be able to see her. I also lost a bet to Jake so I had to tell her how I felt about her sometime this week.
I followed a bunch of my old teachers into the cafeteria, "hey Emily I heard you are a senior this year!" She shot up then ran over to me, she jumped into my arms and I held her close. This was the day I was fighting for, I was fighting for her, I rubbed circles on her back while she cried tears of joy, I hope they were tears of joy. "Hey I heard a little rumor Casey was here, what room?" I set Emily down and handed her the flowers "oh sorry I missed both of your birthdays" she told me the room number and I left Emily to her friends while I went to my old English class.
I realized there was a class but I just ignored it and opened the door, I smiled and waved at everyone I knew, Casey was busy teaching away, "hey Casey I think you have a visitor" she turned around and jumped into my arms just like Emily did "hey, I told you guys I'd be back safe" I carried her out to the hall that way she could cry if she wanted to.
"So hey, you don't mind if I tell you something right?" We were walking outside and it was already next period and I just wanted to tell her that way she could go back to teaching, she held onto my arm and shook her head, so I continued. "I like you and I've been too scared to tell you" we stopped in front of her classroom, I leaned against the wall and expected her to shoot me down but when she kissed me I was shocked, I stopped kissing her then looked at her "me too" I laughed then let her go back to teaching. I opened the door back up, "hey I'll text you later" her class laughed and she blushed.

"Shouldn't you be with your family?" I laughed and opened the door to the gym, Jake walked in and I followed after him. "I don't want to barge in plus I'm only here for a week so I can't let them get used to me being here" we walked over to the tread mills, "anyways how's the leg?" He shrugged then we started running just like we used to when we were deployed.

"Hey ms. Berry can I borrow Casey for a class period or two" I stepped into the class room that Casey was helping to teach. I held flowers in one hand and had my other hand on the back of my neck nervously, "go ahead and welcome back" I nodded then held Casey's hand as we walked out. "You can't just take me out carter" I stopped and looked at her "look I only have a week here until I go back okay, plus I was bored and I wanted to see you" I kissed her cheek then walked her to my rental car. Yes I gave my truck to Emily but I just kept my rental car.

"What am I supposed to do with this giant stuffed gorilla carter" I walked her back to her classroom, it was her lunch time so I decided I should take her back now rather than having her walk in during a middle of a class. "You can sit it in a chair for an absent student, and it will be like I'm there with you" I set it in a random desk then leaned against the door, "so I'll bring you lunch tomorrow, or if your busy I could just bring you lunch then eat with Emily" she leaned against me and I could tell she was upset. "I know you guys don't want me to leave again even Jake doesn't want me to, but I have to and I want to that way I get to protect you guys and a lot of other people, and hey I'll write you and Emily every week or so" she gave me a quick kiss then laid her head on my chest. We stayed like this until the bell rang and I left before her class got back.

I got up from the dinner table and answered my phone "hello", "is this lance corporal Carter Gaines?" This was the phone call I was waiting for except I didn't expect it on my second day back. "Yes sir this is him" I walked outback away from my friends and family, "I know we gave you a week but we need you here in two days so you have to get on a plane tomorrow" he gave me some more details and I told him he could count on me.
"Who was it?" I looked sympathetically at Emily and Casey, I couldn't tell them so I lied "just sergeant checking up on me" I smiled but Jake looked at me curiously. "Hey Jake can we talk?" He nodded then we got up and walked outside.
"You're gonna tell me what the phone call was really about?" I nodded then sat down in a chair "I leave tomorrow afternoon but I couldn't tell them they looked so happy but I'll tell Emily but I just need all the time I can get with Casey" he nodded then patted my back.

I got everything packed and ready again, I had my uniform on and I was currently going to the school to tell Casey goodbye, I told Emily not to say anything and I trust her so if I time this right Casey might not have to teach unless she wants to today.
I walked into the school lunch room, I found Casey with a bunch of other teachers, they pointed at me and she turned around, her smile faded quickly knowing exactly what was going on. She walked up to me and led me outside which didn't help hide her from everybody because of the windows, she hugged me tight and cried, I gave her a kiss and got her to calm down then I had to leave, "hey I love you and I'll try my best to stay safe and hey when I come back it will be our four year anniversary" she nodded then gave me one long kiss, when the bell rang I left and Emily held her for me. "I'll miss you both!" I shouted back at them then jogged back to my car.
