See You Again

Chapter 6

"Why didn't you tell me!" Casey asked that right after I opened the door. "Yes hello now can I just change then we can make a bonfire" she showed me to our room and sat down on the bed as I got dressed in gym shorts and a hoodie. "I didn't tell you because I didn't want you to see me as a failure" I sat next to her and bent my head down "why would you ever think that? And why would you be a failure?" I rubbed the back of my neck nervously "I made a promise to do my best to protect Garrett and he wasn't on that mission so we got separated then he died because I wasn't in the platoon anymore" Casey kissed my cheek then rubbed my back. I got up and spun her around "but let's go have fun and not be sad while I'm here, I'm done ruining our time together" she laughed then told me to put her down so i did but I stole a kiss before we went downstairs with everyone.
"Well if it isn't the prodigy marine, I heard what you did over there to bad you were only five out of twenty men, what couldn't save the rest like you did my brother, I heard you had to make a pretty big decision to save him or not" I've seriously have had enough of this kid. "What's your last name maybe I'll remember why I saved him?" My fists were clinched I was afraid of the memories that we're going to play through my mind. "You had to pick your captain who got shot in the throat or my brother who got shot in the stomach and leg" I did it under captains orders "don't bring up what I do ever again, decisions are made some mean life some mean death but sometimes you just follow orders" I pushed past him angrily, how am I supposed to be happy when he is here.

We were all sitting around the bonfire laughing and sharing funny stories just to lighten the mood from earlier until both of our phones went off. We excused ourselves then walked into the kitchen. "Hey captain its me and Kyle your on speaker what's up?" There was a pause then he spoke "we all need to leave early be at the base in Oklahoma in twelve hours" Kyle looked back at Amber and gave her a fake smile "yes sir see you tomorrow" I hung up then went back to my room to get my stuff, I really was hoping to not leave early it's only been my second day back.
"Not even going to say anything about the girls to him?" I shook my head no "just follow orders they need us down there we go no questions asked" I brushed past him that way I could go tell casey goodbye.
"Hey Casey can we talk oh Amber please too" you could tell by everyone's face that they knew we were leaving. "Are you leaving early again!" Casey shouted madly, I gave her an apologetic smile and she stormed off. Amber and Kyle just hugged and kissed while I was having a screaming match with Casey. "Casey I told you to just forget about me, I didn't want to hurt you!!" I told her she didn't chose this life but then she did by telling me to stop telling her to forget me. "Why can't you just stay home for a week not just two days every time!" I leaned against the wall next to the door "just let me in I have to leave in ten minutes can we please not spend that time fighting?" I was really beating myself up because I was hurting Casey. She opened the door then hugged me tight, I wrapped her legs around my waist and held her close. "Hey I'm gonna fight with every bit of strength I have to get back to you safely, it's only eight months and maybe this time I won't surprise you but I don't know maybe I will" she smiled and then gave me a kiss before walking me out to her car. "You two want to join us I mean one of you have to because you will want your car back" they nodded, Kyle volunteered to drive first so I had Casey cuddled up beside me the whole time.

The last time in two years that I saw Casey was when she rode with us to Oklahoma. I know I was only supposed to be gone for eight months but I got taken away and I've been fighting my way back to base for nine months now. If I'm right I should be only about a week from the base. But I had to make my way through heavy enemy areas.
I had limited ammo so when I took someone out I used my knife and then took their gun.
***five days later***
I held my rifle in my hand and opened every door with caution. I haven't slept in two weeks but my senses still worked so I was very alert. I shot three shots and killed the guy but I knew I would have to run all the way out of the city if I wanted to survive. I sprinted out of the house and almost got gunned down, luckily the guy had no aim and I was able to get him before he got me.
***three days later***
I finally made it back to base but they had me stay there for another week just to catch up on sleep and that way they could take me of of the missing in action list.
***casey POV***
It's Ben two and a half years and they told me he was either killed in action or is missing, I still haven't moved on from him, I still wear his hoodie he left me and cry when I see the picture of him on my lock screen. I just keep wishing that one day he will come and surprise me like he always does.
***carter POV***
"So did you ever finish the mission?" I asked the guys while we rode back to Texas that way I could surprise Casey. They all laughed "Ya we did but I wish our sniper wouldn't have gotten dragged away" I shrugged my shoulders then I caught up on all that sleep I lost.

We had stopped that way I could get changed into my blues and look nice when I see Casey, I really needed a haircut and shave. "Dude lets just stop by a haircut place please" they laughed but finally let me get my hair cut.
So after another thirty minutes of driving we were in front of the high school, I realized that school was still I. Session so I felt bad about actually interrupting her teaching.
I walked through the halls and all of my old teachers gave me a hug and told me what they heard about me being missing, I told them I just got back today and wanted to surprise Casey. All the teachers were now following behind with their phones out as I walked to her classroom.
I walked into the classroom and when Casey looked up she dropped her papers and cried then ran up to hug me. "Hey babe, I missed you I'm sorry I didn't come back after eight months, I promise I used all the short cuts I could" the guys let out a laugh while the students just stared at me confused. "Can I take my fiancé for a minute I'm pretty sure you want a break from.." I paused then picked up the book off of her desk "Romeo and Juliet" they laughed then nodded.
"Oh my god please tell me you're back for more than a week" I nodded, I actually wasn't told when I was going back. "Do you mind if I sit in on your class I was hoping to learn something" the teachers laughed while Casey nodded then gave me a kiss.

"I've missed you so much" I put my hoodie on then jumped on the bed and gave Casey a long passionate kiss that I have been wanting for the past two years. "Come on I called your family to meet us at your favorite restaurant, I also called Jake, your team and Emily and her husband" I sighed then went to put my jeans on, I know it was a fancy place but I just wanted to be comfortable for once.
***
"Hey Emily, sorry I missed the wedding, you still have fun with out me?" She shot up from her chair and gave me a bear hug. "I mean yeah I had fun but it would have been better with my big brother there" I gave her another hug then went over to my parents and gave them a hug.
I sat next to Casey and kept joking around and teasing her. I put my hand on her inner thigh and she looked at me with both shock and lust. I smirked then whispered something into her ear "I have a surprise for you but let me drive" she bit her lip then nodded.
