See You Again

Chapter 8

***two months into deployment***
I was currently looking at the ultra sound casey sent, it was a baby. I quickly opened the letter that was attached to it.
'Dear Carter,
So I don't know if you opened the big envelope or not so there is an ultra sound with a baby boy on it, I want you to pick the name so that is what I want to see in your next letter. I'm sorry that I have to tell you this but your father had a heart attack and died on 5/05/14. Please stay safe over there, I love you and I'm sorry about your dad.' I felt the tears roll down my cheek some were tears of joy but some were from pure sadness. My captain walked in and sat next to me "Carter, you okay?" I nodded then left everything there while I went to go clear my head down at the shooting range.
"Guessing you read the letter" Kyle set the letter and ultra sound picture next to me, I shot my gun and hit it dead on "yes I did, but we have a mission in two hours and I need to be focused". I checked my clips and made sure they were unloaded before I left.

I've got two years left and my child was born yesterday and six in the morning over in the states and at one in the morning over here. I was supposed to be back at base right now calling Casey but we have been fighting for this certain town for nine hours now. Kyle was shot in the back but our medic did good and we got him out of here but the rest of us kept fighting.
***twenty months later***
It was now just me and Parker left from our squad, Mike and Johnny got gunned down when we were entering a building and we were currently out on our last patrol with some marines.
I was currently looking at a picture of me and casey at the state fair on our first date when suddenly my ears started ringing and I felt the humvee shake. I knew then that we were hit with an IED, I looked around and saw everybody was hurt but me and the driver. I got out and helped get our guys out, I grabbed Parker and he was just limp he didn't move or anything, I called the medic over and they declared him dead. I cussed and hit the side of the head humvee, I got into another one and we drove back to base.

I landed in the UK with a lot of British soldiers, I talked to a few of them on the plane and they wished me luck and I did the same for them. When I landed I noticed that my flight wasn't going to leave for two hours so decided to call kyle and see how he was doing.
"Hey man how is it going?" I heard a baby in the back ground and I was suddenly curious "your baby just keeps crying, Casey is working so I volunteered to watch her and I'm getting the hang of this wheel chair so I'm good, you on your way back?" I felt so bad that I wasn't the one in the wheel chair he deserved to walk I didn't. "I'm sorry man but Ya I'll be home in about nine hours, I can't wait to see you guys again, I'm sorry I couldn't bring Parker back with me" I wiped the tears from my face "see you when you get here man and hey be ready for his funeral tomorrow, but dude don't blame yourself for any of this" I said goodbye then hung up. I put my face in my hands to hide my tears from people, I felt a tiny hand on my back I looked up and saw a little boy, he smiled at me before he spoke. "I'm drake, thank you" he stuck out his hand and I shook it, I expected him to leave but he didn't "I'm sorry you are upset, but if it makes you happy I get to see my brother for the first time in eighteen months" I smiled back at him "that does make me happy, now why you talking to me I think I see a lot of people in uniforms getting off of that plane" he took off and I saw a guy get down and hug him.

I landed down and Oklahoma at around eight in the morning, so I planned on surprising casey at her school, I couldn't wait another minute not seeing her so right when I got to texas I was going to get my fourteen month son and then go see casey. I was still in my uniform but I wasn't going to stop and get changed, it was only a two hour drive till I got there.

I held my son Erick for the first time and I was so happy the only thing that would make me happier is when I get to see casey. I got Erick all settled into the car with the help of Amber and Kyle telling me what to do, I called the school and asked them to hold their lunch a little longer that way I didn't interrupt her while she was teaching. I texted my friend that's a teacher there that I was only a minute away that way she could get her teacher of the year award.
When I entered the cafeteria the song hero was playing and I laughed at how cheesy this was, I set Erick with Kyle while I walked into the middle of the cafeteria, I sat down at a random table as she got her award, "your her husband aren't you?" I nodded at the girl and she awed and then I looked back up as the applaud started. I got up "woo go casey" her head shot up and she set the award down and ran over to me. I lifted her up and spun her around, the girls at the table around us awed and clapped. "Good job and hey our son looks good" she laughed then gave me a kiss before leaving to go teach her class.

"Ugh when did you get in I could have missed work today" I laughed and fed Erick some Cheerios "I got here around eleven and I heard you were getting an award and I didn't want you to miss that" I lifted her up onto the counter and kissed her. "Oh how I missed you" she bent back down and gave me another kiss.
