The trial was today. I showed up to it in my black frock coat, waistcoat, long trousers, and lace up boots. When Elizabeth came everyone just looked at her with hate. Elizabeth spoke to the judge, pleading innocent. The evidence was talked about. Elizabeth's lawyer did most of the talking. Elizabeth looked around and in the crowds she saw me. She just gave me a look of helplessness. I wanted to go to her, hug her and comfort her but I couldn't.
The worst that could occur happened. The judge said that the evidence is confirmed to be true. Elizabeth was found to be guilty, even though she wasn't. The punishment was an execution which would take place tomorrow morning. Elizabeth cried when she heard that.
She was escorted back to her cell. I decided to visit her.
When I saw her she was quite emotional.
I felt the need to tell her "You will be in heaven, I am sure of it".
It was visible that it brought her some comfort. I let her cry while hugging me. We spent some time together just trying to have a good time. We laughed and talked. Both of us just tried to have a good time.
It was the next day I woke up, I realised that today was the day when Elizabeth was going to get executed. I got dressed in my coal black long coat, trousers, and lace up boots.
I started packing my things, Catherine's and some of Elizabeth's. I put them in the carriage. I put some food, and my money in the carriage too.
I prayed to God, that he would be with us, help us, guide us, and protect us. I prayed that Elizabeth would be with him in heaven. I prayed that God would be with Elizabeth during the hour of her execution.
An hour before the execution Catherine and I went to visit Elizabeth. I saw that Catherine was dressed in a coal gown, short cloak and button up shoes. She was wearing the exact same clothes as in previous days. We just cried, reflecting on life, talking, trying to laugh, and trying to make Elizabeth's last moments good.
"I love you, mommy," Catherine said.
"I love you Catherine, mommy will be in heaven soon. Don't forget about me sweetie. Here, have my necklace my father gave me." Elizabeth added.
Elizabeth gave Catherine her necklace.
"I am glad I was able to have such a beautiful daughter. Listen to your father, okay? I will always love you." Elizabeth said to Catherine.
"From the first day I saw you, I fell in love with you. It was the greatest thing to me to get married to you. Be a man of God, don't listen to this wicked world. Don't you ever forget about me. No matter what happens, I will always love you." Elizabeth tearfully said to me.
"I am so glad I met you and got married to you. Wait for me in heaven. No matter what happens, I will never forget you and I will always love you." I said while tears streamed down my face.
We kissed for the last time.
A guard came into the cell.
"It's time," he said.
I went to the viewing area with Catherine. As the preparations for the execution happened I just wanted to stop it so badly. But I couldn't. Then I saw Elizabeth beheaded by a sword. At that moment I covered Catherine's eyes. I just wanted to scream, but I couldn't, instead I cried. Everything has an end, isn't that true?
After those incidents Catherine and I decided to escape to Scotland.
