It was late at night, I was comfortable in my bed in my night suit and was about to sleep when the doorbell rang, once and then it kept ringing. I thought it was Vidhi because I knew she was going to propose to Karan today.
Has he accepted????? Was I happy???? Ofcourse I was, she is my best friend.... And finally I can tell her how wrong she was while saying 'Karan likes you, he will never love me back....'
As I opened the door Karan darted in
"So all this time you were trying to push me to Vidhi."
"I..... Mein.... Wo...." I was taken aback to say anything.
"Hmmm? Kya mein, wo, tum?" He asked stepping closer to me.
Before I could step back, he slide his hand on my waist and pulled me close, my heart skipped a beat.
"Tell me Teju? Why would you do that?" He asked.
"Karan... She really liked you! And I thought why not! I mean you were also not in a relationship! Were you?" I asked back keeping my hand in his chest to avoid more closeness.
"So you will set me up with someone? Have you asked me, if I like someone?" He asked.
"I didn't know you like someone else! I am sorry.. and I didn't push you or her I was just trying that you two get to know each other, may be talk, go out! I am sorry!" I felt guilty.
"Teju tu gadhi hai kya?" He chuckled.
"Mein gadhi hu? Mein kya kia? I agree mein bina baat ke matchmaking aunty ban rahi thi. I should have known you like someone else!" I said looking down.
"Listen to me! I don't like Vidhi the way she likes me and I can't do anything about it. But you need to understand....." He was saying but I was feeling so guilty that I had to speak in between
"Bas na Sunny, I am sorry....." I was saying but he kept his fingersl on my lip.
"Shhhh.. listen to me, I know this is not the right time, you will not like what I am going to say but I have to do it nahi to tu pagal ho jayegi bol bol kar" he said looking into my eyes"the girl I like is you! I have always liked you some way or the other but last year when you called me after so long I felt.... I don't know what I felt."
"Karan....."
"Shhhhh, I am leaving for now! Take your time to absorb what I just said, don't reject me right away. I know you like me... But you are just too much of a dedicated friend to accept me, we can talk to her. But please just don't say no!" He said and left, just like that!!

"Good morning mummy!!" I picked up the phone it was early in the morning.
"Sab thik hai na! Itni subah subah!" I asked.
"Are then you get all busy, fir thik se baat hi nahi hoti hai!" She said.
We chatted randomly about everything in the world and then comes the main topic.
"Are wo Karan yaad hai? Kundra uncle ka beta!" She said getting me all alert.
"Haan, kya hua use!" I asked acting all normal, but my mind played all clips from last night.
"Use kuch nahi hua! Uski behen hai na...." She said and I immediately asked
"Pallavi di!"
"Nahii! Choti wali! Charu! Uski shadi hai! Unhone invite Kia hai!" She told.
"Aap log touch me the kya mummy? Achanak se! Wo log to USA me nahi hai!" I asked.
"Nahi beta! Wo log to wahi hai, ate jate rehte hai USA. Touch me the thoda bohot, par ab neighbours hai na hum, pagal ladki!" Mummy laughed.
"Haan haan!" I said.
"To tu chali jana! Ab hum log to yaha se aa nahi sakte India! Humne bol diya hai unhe ke Teju aa jayegi!" She almost ordered.
"Mummy! Mujhe off nahi milega! Fir mein bhi Diwali ke time Pratik ke pass ane ka soch rahi hu aap sab log waha ho to!" I tried to make 'bahana'.
"Are Jalandhar nahi jana hai, Mumbai me hi hai shadi!" She said leaving no scope for me to say no.
"Okay!" I said. But Karan didn't say anything to me about his sister's marriage.
I talked to Pappa and Pratik after that and when I disconnected the phone and was about to get up I received a call, from Karan!
"Yeah!" I said.
"Aa gaya phone ghar se!" I said and I know he was smiling like an idiot.
"You asked your parents to invite my family?" I asked.
"Are you mad? My parents are friends with yours! I just saw the list of invitations! Girl, calm your....." He said.
"Shut up! I will not come!" I declared.
"I don't mind! You will have to talk to your mummy." He said.
"Acccha chal vidhi ko bhi le ana! Akele ane me problem ho to! Aa ja bas, please." He said with a sweetly.
"I will think about it! Par tumne kuch kaha hi nahi kal to, ya uske pehle!" I said.
"Did you just call me 'tum'? Aur uske pehle tune baat kari thi mujhse! Har baar to ignore kar deti thi! Ya to uthati nahi thi ya to vidhi ko pakda deti thi. Aur kal to kuch aur jyada jaruri Kam tha!" He said.
"Tum dono sath me rehte ho kya? Humesha kaise wo utha leti thi Tera phone." He asked.
"Nahi we don't live together, but mostly we are together!" I said.
"Listen, aa jana na shadi me! Baat karni hai!" He said pleading.
"Ab kya baat karni hai? Aa jaungi! Lekin Vidhi bhi ayegi." I said.
"Chalega!!" He said.
I smiled as I disconnect the phone.
Damn!! Kyu smile! Nahi! Vidhi and Karan! Bas!! Par wo itna cute hai, sometimes, you end up smiling for no reason.

"He said he doesn't like me!" Vidhi came to my cubical in the office.
"I know!!" Fuck, what is wrong with me.
"I mean, you would have called me kal raat ko hi if he would have agreed to give it a chance." I tried to correct.
"Yeah! Did he call you? Last night or in the morning!" She asked, I shook my head.
"He likes YOU!" She declared.
"What!!??? Are you mad! We are friends that too abhi Bane hai itne acche! Uski behen padhati thi mujhe bas itna hi relationship hai!" I said.
"I think he do! Sirf tere bare me baatein karta rehta hai!" She said and left, just like that.

About a month later--
"You remember na! Kal shadi me jana hai!" I asked Vidhi.
"Yeah! I will talk to Karan about us again!" She said.
"Vidhi! Why do are being so.. I don't know, jane de na if he has already said no!" I said, fearing that Karan will tell her about us!
"I want to give myself a last chance!" She said and I nodded.
