Eddie sat there in first period. Mrs. O'Donnel's English class. He was trying desperately to stay awake. He stared blankly at the chalk board holding his head up with one hand. He refused to flunk another year of 12th grade and this semester, he was trying his hardest to actually attend every class. So far he snuck by each test and paper with just (barely) a passing grade. His eyes started to feel heavy and he just about nodded off when he felt a tap on his shoulder. He turned around to see his friend Jeff handing him a folder square piece of paper. He took it from him, unfolded it and read it to himself.
Eddie-
Can I buy off of you?
Chrissy
He looked over his shoulder and swore quietly to his buddy. "Fuck off Jeff. Nice try" He crumbled the note in his fist.
"Dude." Jeff nodded his head over his own shoulder trying to silently tell him it really was from the name written at the bottom of the note. Chrissy sat directly behind Jeff. Eddie leaned slightly over the side of the desk and made eye contact with Chrissy Cunningham. She nervously bit her bottom lip and nodded at him. He swiftly turned back around and faced forward. No fucking way. He uncrumpled the note and read it over again. And again. The i's were dotted with a tiny heart. He grabbed a pencil and scribbled back-
3pm. Forest behind football field. Picnic Table.
He carefully folded the note back up and passed it back to Jeff who passed it on to Chrissy. She held it under her desk and gently unfolded it to read his response all while avoiding getting caught by their teacher. She stuffed the note in her pocket and continued listening to the lesson at the front of the class.
Eddie was no longer struggling to stay awake. In fact, he was wide awake. Chrissy Cunningham wants to buy drugs? Off me? THEE Chrissy Cunningham? Homecoming queen. Captain of the cheerleading squad. Valedictorian. Most popular (and prettiest) girl in school. What. The. Fuck. His thoughts were interrupted when the bell rang, signaling the end of class.

Three O'clock came quickly. Chrissy made sure the coast was clear when she hurried across the football field and into the wooded area where he instructed her to meet him. She fiddled with her hands as she stepped through the dense trees. Walking over dead leaves and broken branches, getting startled at each one that cracked under her foot. Soon enough she spotted the picnic table in a clearing. She looked all around but she was the only one there. It was eerie and quiet. The sound of a squirrel running up a tree made her jump. She waited another agonizing minute alone before backing up a few steps, turning around to leave. With doing so, she completed bumped right into Eddie Munson. She let out a small scream.
"Whoa! Hey, hey, hey. Sorry" He chuckled. "Didn't mean to scare you." She looked terrified as he looked her up and down. "You Okay?"
She looked around the empty clearing again making sure they were alone. "I'm... I'm fine." She followed him to the picnic table and took a seat across from him. He pulled out the black metal lunch box and set it out in front of her. Her legs nervously bouncing as she looked down. Eddie had a puzzled look on his face as he slowly removed his jacket, placing it on the table.
"There's uh... There's nothing to worry about. Okay? No one ever comes out here. We're safe." He was so reassuring. "I promise." He opened up the lunch box, revealing its contents. Bags of loose buds, rolling papers, some joints and a pack of cigarettes. He rested his chin on his hand and looked at her.
Chrissy couldn't even look him in the eye. "So, how does this work exactly?"
"Oh, just like any other old sale, except, uh, cash only and for obvious reasons... No receipts."
