They laid there listening to the radio and the sound of the rain for over an hour.  Eddie had a feeling Chrissy had drifted off into sleep by the sounds of her slow deep breathing. He looked over at the clock and squinted his eyes.  3:15am.

Shit.

As much as the thought of this perfect night coming to an end killed him, he knew he had to take her home at some point before her parents realized she had stayed out all night.

"Chrissy.." he whispered. Nothing.  "Chrissy?" He tapped her back lightly.  "Chrissy, wake up."  He shook her ever so slightly.

"Hmmmm....?" Was all she got out.

"Chris... its past 3 in the morning.."

She sat up a bit and looked at the clock.  She made a groan-like noise and buried her face back in his chest.

"I know..." he said quietly.  "Come on... let's get you home before your parents realize you aren't there and send out a search party."

She begrudgingly sat up, got off the bed and offered her hand to Eddie.  He grabbed a hold as she helped pull him up.  From there, he followed her out of the room, down the hall and towards the front door.  He grabbed the keys to van and they headed out.

        *******

The drive home was quieter than the ride there.  The music was at a normal volume and his driving wasn't as all over the place.  He subconsciously drove slower than normal to savour every moment he had left with her.  The wipers squeaked as they cleared the windows every ten seconds.

As the van approached her subdivision, he pulled over on the side of the road under a street lamp.  Chrissy looked around.  "Oh, my house is just up there. Like five more houses" she pointed ahead.

"If I drive this hunk of junk any closer, I'll wake all your neighbors, and likely your parents." He wasn't wrong.  The muffler to his van was extremely loud.  The breaks squealed and there was an unidentifiable clicking noise the whole time he drove.  They both exited the van and  headed down the road.  "At least it stopped raining." Eddie said as they walked through shallow puddles.  She wrapped her arms around herself and shivered.  Eddie noticed and without any sort of hesitation, he took off his leather jacket and put it on Chrissy.

"Thank you Eddie..."

They walked a few minutes together quietly until they reached the end of her driveway.  She slipped off her pink back pack and unzipped the top.  She dug through in search of her house keys. "Oh shoot..."

"Oh no... are you locked out?" He asked.

She nodded. "We leave the back door open though, I can sneak in back there." Her and Eddie headed up the driveway and around the side of the house when they were faced with a tall gate.  Chrissy pulled on the handle but it was stuck. "Seriously...?" She said under her breath frustrated.

"Hold up... I got this." He said as he took off his chain wallet and tossed it to her.  He swiftly reached up his hands to the top of the gate and hoisted himself up looking into the backyard.  "You don't have a ferocious guard dog back here do ya?"

She smiled and shook her head.

He flung his legs over the top and jumped down into the backyard.  He reached up and unlatched the top, giving the gate a gentle push open.

"I take it this isn't your first time hopping fences Mr. Munson?" She handed him back his wallet and slipped out of his jacket.

"No," he whispered. "Keep it for now.  Looks better on you any way."

Chrissy smiled and put it back on.  She took a few steps to the side door and turned around to face him. "Eddie.... I can't thank you enough for tonight. I'm so glad I came..."

Oh I'll make you co-.. Nope. Stop it Munson.  Not the time.

"I'm so glad you wrote me that note."  He opened his arms up and invited her in for a hug.

She stepped in as he wrapped his arms around her tiny frame.  Her arms held him around his waist.  She looked up at him and their eyes met.  He moved a piece of hair from her face then traced her jaw line with his fingers.  Both their hearts undoubtedly racing.  He kept his hand under her chin and maintained eye contact.  Soon, she mustered up the courage,  stood on her tippy toes and kissed him. Hard.

Holy shit.

Fireworks went off between them.  Sparks flew.  Eddie deepened the kiss with his tongue as she parted her lips open.  She held him tightly at the waist as his hand moved to the back of her neck.  He gently pushed her one step back so she was sandwiched between him and the side of her house.  Both their breathing became erratic.  Chrissy softly moaned into his mouth.  Her sounds causing him to rock his hips into hers.  He knew she could feel what was behind his jeans growing harder by the second.  Thunder in the distance started again.  Eddie slowly pulled his mouth away while keeping his forehead against hers.  She reached up and moved a piece of his hair behind his ear and smiled.  Rain lightly starting spitting on them.

"Good night, Eddie Munson."  She gave him one last kiss.

"Sweet dreams, Chrissy Cunningham."

She stepped in front of the door and opened it as slowly and silently as she could.  He waited until she was inside before walking out through the gate, gently closing it behind him.  The rain got heavier and he was without his jacket but he smiled all the way to his parked van down the street.

Hands down

This is the best day I can ever remember

I'll always remember the sound of the stereo

The dim of the soft lights

The scent of your hair that you twirled in your fingers

And the time on the clock when we realized its so late

And this walk that we shared together

The streets were wet and the gate was locked

So I jumped it and I let you in

And you stood at your door with your hands on my waist

And you kissed me like you meant it

And I knew

That you meant it
