Chrissy sat in the passenger seat of Samantha Benton's 1985 Camaro.  The uwindows were half-way down allowing the cool early April air to pass through her strawberry blonde locks.  The ride out in the county was nice.  The winding roads through the forest were a fresh escape from their small town, 40 minutes away.

She looked down at the large thick white envelope that laid on her lap.  Her fingers danced across the broken wax seal insignia.  She smiled when she thought back on all her hard work and effort she put in over the years in order to receive what sat inside the enclosure.  Weekends spent studying and cramming for exams.  Skipping out on social activities to spend time on extra credit assignments.  The pressure her parents had put on her since freshman year wasn't fun or easy... but it might have been worth it.  But getting into her top choice University wasn't the best thing that had happen to her this year; Eddie was.

"What do you think he's going to say?"  Samantha couldn't help but notice Chrissy had gone quiet over the last few minutes as she stared down at the envelope.

Chrissy shrugged her shoulders.  "I'm sure he'll be happy for me.  He knew how badly I wanted this."  She pointed up the street to the roadside mailbox labeled with the name and address 'LIPTON 2121'. "It's this one."

"What do you think this means for you guys?" Samantha made a left turn onto the long gravel driveway.

"I don't even know what "us guys" is.  I don't know what we are.  We still haven't really had that conversation."  Chrissy looked ahead and spotted Eddie leaning on the railing of the deck, strumming along on his acoustic guitar, cigarette smoldering between his lips. "All I know is how happy me makes me."

"And all I know is the facts- You two have been fooling around for the last few weeks, you talk about him constantly, and the way you guys stare at each other from across the cafeteria makes it pretty obvious what you two are; totally smitten for each other." Samantha declared as she pulled in and parked beside his iconic box van.

Eddie turned around and waved at both girls before tossing his cigarette to the ground.

The girls smiled and waved back.  "I thought you hated smokers?"  Samantha questioned Chrissy as she reached to the back seat and retrieved her backpack.

"He's different..." She unbuckled herself and tossed on her backpack.

Samantha eyed her.  "Mhmm.... very different indeed."

"Stop!"  Chrissy laughed and playfully pushed her arm.  "Listen Sam, thanks again for covering for me... and driving me out here..."

"Hey, I'm not the only one doing the covering... if anyone asks, I was at your house this weekend...." Samantha held out her pinkie finger.

Chrissy locked her pinkie finger with hers and promised.  "And I was at YOUR house this weekend."

Eddie placed his guitar down, trotted down the steps and made his way to the car. He approached the passenger side and opened the door for her.

Chrissy leaned over the center console and hugged her friend.  "Thank you, Sam..."

Samantha squeezed her tightly.  "Have fun... Be safe... Don't do anything stupid..."  She broke away and looked up at Eddie.  "Take care of my girl, Eddie."

"You know I will.  Thanks for driving her out here, Sam." Eddie reached his hand down to Chrissy and helped her out of the car.

"I'll pick her up from your trailer tomorrow afternoon?"  Samantha called back as Chrissy shut the door.

"You bet!"  Eddie replied as he smacked the roof of the Camero a few times with his hand.  They both waved as Samantha peeled out of the driveway, kicking up dirt and stones behind her.
