Eddie was so eager to walk through the doors of Hawkins High that Monday morning.  Normally he would have dreaded the return to school after spring break but now he had something(someone) to look forward to.   Other than a few phone calls throughout the past week(albeit, hours long into the night), he hadn't seen Chrissy since their run in at the mall.  He had never been so excited for Mrs. O'Donnell's english class before.  But he knew he was guaranteed to see her.

He strutted through the hallway with a little bounce in his step, when something(someone) beautiful caught his eye and stopped him dead in his tracks.  She was standing at her locker, back to him, talking a with a fellow cheerleader.  Strawberry blonde hair in a high pony tail. But the most magical part, was the leather jacket she was wearing.

My leather jacket.  She's wearing my jacket.

He began walking again and slowly started to approach her. "Hey pretty girl.." he said with a friendly smile.  She spun around and met his smile with her own.

"Eddie!" She said excitedly and gave him a hug.  He hung onto her for a few extra seconds before she pulled away.  "You like my new jacket?" She asked and she put her hands in the pockets and posed.

"I told you it looks better on you than me." He said as he bit his lower lip.  "Wouldn't you agree, Jess?

Jessica's eyebrows were raised as she looked at Chrissy, then to Eddie, then back to Chrissy.  Until this moment, she didn't even know either of them knew each other's name. "Uhmmm yeah... Sure. Chrissy, I'll catch you after class.  And uh.." she took a step toward her and whispered in her ear, "you have some explaining to do." She added with a wink.

"Bye Jessie" she laughed.  Jessica bounced off to her class.

Eddie leaned on the locker next to her.  "You know if more people see us talking together, it might ruin your pristine reputation around here."

Chrissy rolled her eyes and closed her locker. "Screw my reputation.  I don't care what people think."  She leaned up on her toes and kissed Eddie on the cheek.

Just as she came back down on her feet her eyes darted to a group of students walking up the hall in their direction.  Her smile faded.  Eddie noticed and glanced over his shoulder to find Jason Carver and half the basketball team storming their way.

"Aaaaand here we go..." Chrissy said quietly drawing out the A.

"So I guess the rumors are true then!?"  Jason said so loudly it stopped everyone in the halls.

"What rumors...?" Chrissy said shyly.

"You really thought you two could get away with it?  You know how many people saw you at the mall last week and told me?"

"Jason...don't..." She began before getting interrupted.

"No!  I want to hear you admit it, Chrissy!" A small crowd of students were now watching. "Say it.  Tell everyone you're screwing THE FREAK!"

Eddie's knuckles cracked as he clenched his fist.

Jason's attention was now on Eddie.  "To tell ya the truth Munson... I'm actually impressed.  Didn't think you'd have it in you.  But when I was told you were going after Chrissy- my slutty sloppy seconds I-"

Eddie swiftly grabbed him by the collar of his shirt and slammed his back into the lockers. Low 'oooohs' came from the small crowd of students watching.

"Take her name... out of your mouth, Carver." He gritted through his teeth.

Jason gave him a half laugh. "Or what?"

Eddie kept a tight hold of his shirt near his neck.  He brought his face inches from Jason's and said sternly "Or I will fucking end you." He released his gripped roughly and turned around to face Chrissy again.

Jason looked at his buddies and smiled. "Oh really? I'd like to see you try, FREAK!" With that he spat at the back of Eddie's head. The crowd gasped.

"Jason!" Yelled Chrissy.

Instantly, Eddie whipped around and punched Jason square in the jaw causing him to hit the ground.  The thick metal rings on his fingers breaking Jason's front teeth and cutting his lips.  He spit blood on to the floor as he held his jaw with his hand and winced in pain.  Some people cheered.  Few laughed. Most stood there shocked in silence.  Including Chrissy.  Eyes wide and hands covering her open mouth.

"EDWARD MUNSON!" Principal Higgins marched down the hallway out of nowhere within seconds and grabbed Eddie by the sleeve of his hoodie.  "MY OFFICE! NOW!"

The principle rushed Eddie out of the crowd in the hallway while Jason's friends helped the victim to his feet.  "This isn't over, ASSHOLE!" Jason yelled.

"Chrissy! I'm sorry!" Eddie hollered over his shoulder as Principal Higgins lead him away.  She watched him get dragged to the office.  The bell rang overhead and people started to make their way to their designated classes.

The principle threw Eddie down into the chair in-front of his desk.  Eddie slumped down and crossed his arms. Principle Higgins looked at the clock on the wall and shook his head.

"Not even 9 o'clock in the morning yet..."

"He started it!"

"Mr. Munson, you know just well as anybody here my policy on violence.  You'll be lucky if that boy's jaw isn't broken and you better hope the Carver's don't press charges!"

Eddie rolled his eyes and looked at his swollen knuckles.

"One week mandatory suspension."

"That's bullshit! Do you even know what that piece of shit said?!" Eddie stood up aggressively.

The principal yelled above his voice. "Edward!  You sit back down right this minute!"

Eddie scoffed and did as he was told.  Principal Higgins pulled out a piece of paper and starting filing the report. Eddie quietly bit his nails then cleared his throat.  As calmly as he could, he said "Sir, if I'm suspended a week, that puts me behind in all my classes.  I'll miss my semi finals.  I need to graduate this year..."

The principal did not look up from writing.  "Then you should have thought about that before you struck that student."

"For fuck's sake..." Eddie stated while rubbing his eyes in frustration.

The principal slammed down his pen and stood up. "ONE MORE WORD OUT OF YOUR MOUTH AND I WILL MAKE IT MY PERSONAL GOAL TO MAKE SURE YOU WILL REPEAT YOUR SENIOR YEAR A FOURTH TIME!"

They stared at one another.

"Do I make myself clear?!"

Eddie nodded.

"Now leave. Go home."

He sighed as he slung his backpack over one shoulder and headed out the office, slamming the door behind him.
