FEELING THE SAME thing the Alpha King felt, the Alpha Wolf whined and became frantic, and in its state of panic, it was quickly losing its hold on the newly formed bond.
Darius tried to warn him about the new bond, which was slowly slipping off its grasp but could no longer communicate with his wolf. He was like a wind in his own body.
It was then that the Alpha King also understood why the Elder Eta was so adamant about not handing over the book. She knew what a broken bond could do to a wolf's mind.
But Darius needed to prove to her that the human-to-wolf connection can be as strong as in the past. So, Darius focused on the broken bond and pictured it fixing itself. He imagined himself shifting, over and over again.
Human to Wolf, Wolf to human, and human to Wolf again. Then suddenly, the connection sparked and a new bond was formed between Darius and his wolf.
A bond that was even stronger than the previous one with the strands tightly held together.
"Hunter?" Darius tested, and to the delight of both parties, his wolf heard him.
After checking that his wolf was okay, Darius heaved a sigh of relief before proceeding.
"Mate-bond," Darius told the wolf.
The Alpha Wolf found the bond that they would share with their mate if they finally found her.
He took the full bond he formed previously from the DNA of both him and his human side to combine with the mate bond, thereby causing the bond to grow stronger and bigger.
The bond was even bigger than the bond it shared with its human side.
Darius knew that his relationship with Hunter might never be the same again but the process needed to be done. Their mate would repair the relationship between him and his wolf once they found her.
If they found her.
Darius shook his head. This was no time to have negative thoughts.
"Find mate!"
The Alpha King had no other choice but to watch the whole process. He closed his eyes again, but this time in thought.
With everything inside of him, Darius prayed this worked because he wouldn't be able to take it if the search failed.
No longer paying attention to it,
His wolf barked a warning. As soon as his wolf got Darius' attention and knew that the King was fully by his side and not distracted, he concentrated on the mate bond.
Darius could feel his energy draining in huge amounts, as his wolf focused all his spiritual energy on locating the person on the other side of the bond.
The more the Alpha Wolf searched, the more the fatigue grew, until finally Hunter could do no more, and shifted back into human form.
The Alpha King lay naked on the floor, panting and drained.
His eyes began to close as his energy seeped away. He was quickly losing consciousness.
Before he knew it, Darius' eyes rolled to the back of his head and he immediately lost consciousness, but not before thinking aloud,
"Hotel Aqua."
~•~×°×~•~
Darius' green eyes shot open. He was greeted by white ceilings and a very unfamiliar room: a white room.
He pulled the comforter off him to see that he was also dressed in formal clothes, consisting of a pair of black pants and a white shirt.
He knew his people would never dress him in such clothes. It had to be one person. The one who chose to punish him.
He chuckled humourlessly. "I guess she did take me after all."
His eyes took in the room. If he would be there for all of eternity, he might as well get used to the room. It was simple yet elegant. The walls were painted pure white with beautiful paintings hanging here and there.
There was a long couch on the side, the arms made from the rarest of woods. Looking at the furniture, one would know that they cost a fortune. The room was fit for a king.
A powerful king and not a sorry excuse for a king like him.
Darius sighed, thinking about his mate who he would never get to see. If she was a werewolf, she would also die at her prime. And if his mate were human, she would have no problem with moving on.
He thought about what his mate looked like. He imagined what her eye colour would be and how soft her hair might be.
Would she be tall or short?
Would she be a werewolf like him?
Would she be caramel-skinned or as pale as he was?
He wondered what her personality would be like. Either way, Darius wouldn't care because he would have loved her regardless.
Then he smiled bitterly. He would never get to know.
Right then, a knock sounded on the door.
"And she knocks..." he spoke sarcastically, but once he registered the scent of the person behind the door, he froze.
It was Samuel. Darius scrunched his eyebrows, wondering what was going on. He immediately shot up and scrambled out of bed in a very clumsy manner.
Opening the door, the Alpha King began firing questions at the Earl Delta Captain. "Where are the rest of the wolves? What happened after I passed out? Were we attacked?"
"Everything is fine, Alpha, we are all safe. However, we were all worried about you. How do you feel? Since you fainted, we have not been able to feel your wolf."
Darius shot Samuel a dazed look. "Fainted? You mean I survived?"
"Yes... You did. But I want to know how you're feeling, Alpha?" The Earl Delta Captain asked, giving the Alpha King a weird look, but Darius was too relieved to care.
He survived, and that probably meant that...
Just then Darius recalled what he saw before losing consciousness.
"Did we find her?"
"Before you lost consciousness, you mentioned the name of a hotel, and we brought you there. I guess this is where the Luna is."
Darius nodded, knowing he was possibly close to his mate. At that moment, his wolf began to stir, causing relief to wash over Darius. Hunter then shook out his fur, and sat on his hind legs, staring at Darius expectantly.
On sensing the Alpha King's wolf, the Earl Delta Captain bowed, exposing his neck. "Alpha."
His wolf sniffed the air while releasing its dominance. When it sensed that the Captain was harmless, he withdrew his dominance, causing Samuel to release a relieved breath.
Darius sighed, rolling his eyes at his wolf's dramatics.
