"YOU DIDN'T KILL them

"YOU DIDN'T KILL them. They will come back for us!" Ophelia tried to reason but Noriel shot her a glare.

"He is royalty. I can't end a royal bloodline without a proper trial or command from the Alpha King," Noriel informed, still glaring at her but mostly at her hands that were still covered in flames.

"What's wrong?" she asked, confused about the sudden hostility he was showing her.

"You're a witch!" It wasn't a question but a statement.

Her eyes went wide and afraid. "I don't know. Look I'm just as surprised as you a-"

Noriel quickly cut in. "What kind of a fool do you take me to be? So, you expect me to believe that you had no idea about what you are?

"You wanted to deceive my Alpha by playing a damsel in distress when in actuality you are the villian instead, didn't you?"

She narrowed her gaze at him, barely able to contain her annoyance. "Watch your words, Noriel! Just because we became friends through our connection with Darius, you still don't know enough about me.

"So, I won't allow you to accuse me of things that I myself have no knowledge about!"

"Accuse? Can't you see what you just did to Prince Gabriel and his men?" Noriel questioned then scoffed.

"You know what, don't answer that. Regardless of what you are, you are carrying the Royal heir and I must keep you safe.

"You can explain to the Alpha when you see him. For your sake, I pray he doesn't find out before you get the chance to-"

The door opened before Noriel could finish speaking, revealing a bloodied Darius.

"Too late."

IN LESS THAN two hours, the Alpha King got a tip-off of Efrain's location from the President

IN LESS THAN two hours, the Alpha King got a tip-off of Efrain's location from the President.

After getting off the phone call with his mother, Darius knew that there was no way he would be getting the court's permission to take the seal.

He barely had three hours before the time given to him by Gabriel would be up and Darius was going crazy.

Governor Efrain was reluctant at first until he was shown the video of his wife and daughter in a prison in Sicily.

The Italian Viscount Epsilon traced them to Sicily and the closest wolf Pack to their location was the Black Glaze Pack, who immediately captured them.

The Alpha King had demanded that they remain untouched unless the Governor refused to cooperate.

After handing Governor Efrain over to the New York Pack to be detained, he went on his way to the location where he hoped to find his mate and Beta.

While on the way, Darius had never felt more nervous in his entire life than he did in those forty minutes that felt like a lifetime. His bond with Ophelia was still intact so he knew she was still alive and that reassured him a bit.

On reaching the address given to him by Governor Efrain, Darius discovered that it was an open field on the outskirts of the city with a lone building in the middle.

Not to arouse suspicion, the Alpha King told the Earl Delta Captain to park the car a few blocks away from the building, and through a mindlink, the Captain told the head Theta to do the same with the military vans containing the other Thetas.

A hundred Thetas from the Storm Forest Pack surrounded the property while twenty went in with Darius and the Earl Deltas.

From what Darius could sense, they were over thirty wolves and fifty humans guarding the building. It almost seemed like they were expecting him because they attacked immediately.

The Alpha King and the wolves with him overpowered them in no time and the field was littered with bodies of wolves and humans alike but Gabriel was nowhere to be found.

This was easy.

Way too easy that Darius found it extremely suspicious.

Darius knew his brother wasn't too smart but he also knew Gabriel couldn't have been defeated that easily.

The further he went into the building, the more unsettled he became. He found three doors once he entered the building and there was no one guarding each room.

He signalled for Samuel to take the first room while he took the second. The room Darius entered was an empty medical room.

Founding tools arranged neatly and in place on the table, it looked looked like whoever wanted to occupy the room was preparing for surgery. There was also a lingering smell that made Darius' nose twitch in distaste.

Coming out of the medical room, the Alpha King found the Earl Delta Captain waiting outside.

"It is an empty office, Alpha," Samuel reported about his own findings.

The third door led to another hallway which had just one door at the end. Darius tried to listen ahead of them but the walls were just too thick, almost soundproof.

Nearing the third door, they found it slightly open with a burnt body of a dead guard thrown carelessly across the threshold.

Darius shared a look with Samuel who nodded and went ahead with his gun stretched in front of him. Samuel then gestured to the Thetas to silently surround the hallway.

Reaching the door, the Alpha King was immediately blasted with the sweet scent of his mate. He took a step forward, only to pause, hearing a voice.

"You're a witch!" Darius heard an accusing voice say. It sounded like Noriel. Noriel's voice was followed by a softer voice that Darius would recognise even in his sleep.

"I don't know. I am just... Look I'm just as surprised as you a-"

The Duke Beta's voice quickly cut in. "What kind of a fool do you take me for? You expect me to believe that you had no idea about what you are.

"You wanted to deceive my Alpha by playing a damsel in distress, when in actuality you are the villian instead, didn't you?"

The Alpha King frowned in confusion, trying to put the pieces together. Why was his Beta calling his mate a witch and why wasn't she denying it?

"Watch your words, Noriel! Just because we became friends through our connection with Darius, you still don't know enough about me.

"So, I won't allow you to accuse me of things that I myself have no knowledge about!" Ophelia's voice came in again.

"Accuse? Can't you see what you just did to Prince Gabriel and his men?" Darius heard Noriel ask and his question was followed by a scoff.

"You know what, don't answer that. Regardless of what you are, you are carrying the Royal heir and I must keep you safe.

"You can explain to the Alpha when you see him. For your sake, I pray he doesn't find out before you get the chance to-"

Darius opened the door before Noriel could finish speaking, having been completely consumed by his curiosity.

"Too late," the Alpha King said in response to the Duke Beta's unfinished words as he took in the scene before him.
