OPHELIA FELT HER heart begin to beat faster, when Darius suddenly took both her hands in his.
"Nothing makes me happier than knowing that you trust me. I would much rather stab myself in the heart with a silver blade than hurt you with these hands," Darius said with so much sincerity that it shocked her.
The strangest thing was that she couldn't find an ounce of a lie in his words.
"You don't have to do that, I believe you," she muttered shyly, referring to him stabbing himself.
He gave her another blinding smile, then said, "Go out with me then."
"I still have a job to do, Darius. My shift hasn't ended yet, I can get fired for leaving the hotel in the middle of my shift."
Ophelia glanced at her wristwatch. It wasn't even evening yet.
"It's not that I do not want to go out with you, I just can't leave work now."
Darius nodded in understanding. "Then as your new boss, I am relieving you of your duties for today. You can report back to work tomorrow."
"I forgot that you could do that now," she said more to herself than him.
"But even so, I will be leaving Monica alone at the desk," Ophelia added.
"I have instructed Samuel to keep her company. Trust me, she won't notice you are gone," Darius responded and she chuckled at the thought of Samuel and Monica arguing with a guest over clashes in ideas.
Putting those two together was probably the worst thing to do at that moment but she knew that Monica would not let Samuel walk all over her without putting up a good fight. With that in mind, she went into the staff room to get changed.
She left the hotel with Darius, not even knowing where he was taking her to. As she said earlier, she wholeheartedly believed that he would not put her in a position where she would be in danger.
He led her to a beautiful sleek black Range Rover. As a lover of cars, Ophelia internally gushed over the car for a few minutes. The interior was black and red and was just as beautiful as the outside.
"Is there any place you wish to go to?" He asked as the driver started the car.
"Not parti-" she began to say but was cut off by a loud growl from her stomach. Her face flushed in embarrassment.
"I guess we should have lunch first," Darius said with a soft smile on his face.
Ophelia was thankful he did not comment on the mortifying growl of her stomach. She would have melted into the leather seats if he did.
Soon, the driver pulled up to a nearby restaurant called 'Hagues' and she came out of the car.
"I heard that you can only get into this restaurant if you have a reservation and it is mostly fully booked. So, how did you get a reservation in such a short time?"
"Let's just say that I have my ways. Do not worry about trying to figure it out, I will tell you everything before the day is over," he assured her just as one of Darius's guards opened the door from the outside.
Nodding, she stepped out of the car. Even though she wasn't fully comfortable with it, Ophelia hadn't commented on the cars following Darius's car.
She didn't know who Darius was and why he needed that much security but she wouldn't be so nosy as to start questioning him. Since he promised to tell her everything, she would wait until he did.
Ophelia kept quiet even as two of his guards went inside first and came out shortly after. She knew they were going to check out the area first.
"Shall we?" Darius said, gesturing to the restaurant.
Taking a deep breath, she slowly made her way into the restaurant with Darius beside her. He led her straight up the stairs to the roof terrace.
It had a full glass window from the roof down to the floor. The place was secluded and through the window, she had a nice view of the city. As soon as the door closed, classical music started playing.
She sat opposite him on the round couch. There was a table in the middle with a bottle of wine and two tall glasses.
Ophelia looked across the table to find Darius already looking at her. His stare was more intense than hers and it seemed to pin her in place.
His facial expression wasn't giving anything away so she could not tell what he was thinking. Being in such a closed space with him made her nervousness shoot up.
"You look so beautiful at this moment, it's almost unreal," he began, causing her face to heat up even more.
He said it so casually, unaware of the internal uproar he caused her. Ophelia was about to thank him for the compliment when he continued,
"Almost all of my life, I've been waiting to meet you. Lost hope a few times but somehow I was always able to find it later on. Seeing you now, I do not regret waiting."
At his words, she frowned in confusion. "What do you mean? We just met yesterday."
He smiled and said, "All in due time."
"Shall we eat?" Darius asked, and she nodded.
He pressed the button on the side of the table, and in less than two minutes, waiters came in, rolling food carts in front of them.
"I didn't know what you liked, so I told my men to order a few things," Darius informed her as she took in the amount of food they were bringing in.
"A few things? This looks like the entire menu!" Ophelia exclaimed in shock.
No one had done such a thing for her, not even Tobias who she loved and thought he loved her back.
Darius nodded with a smile. "You caught me. Go ahead and pick whatever you want to eat."
"I'll have whatever it is you pick," she told him.
Whenever they went out, Tobias didn't like her eating so much so she always let him order.
He would always end up picking a plate of salad much to her disappointment and she would have no other choice but to eat it. She hoped Darius would be different.
"In that case, I will have some of this, and this," he replied, pointing at the medium-rare steak and another bowl of chicken drumsticks.
"She will have the same as me," he said to the waiter, then turned to her and asked, "Is that okay with you?"
Surprised at the turn of events, Ophelia nodded quickly. Seeing a man order a proper meal, especially her favourite food, pleased her greatly.
