"hi jaeyoon unnie, are you doing something?" i looked at her through my iPad after i rang her number through facetime. she has a hoodie on, which i recognized as jungkook's hoodie that he gave to her when they were still dating. she's biting on a tip of a pencil, wearing thin-framed glasses.

[ not that much. do you need anything, angel? ]

i looked at the math worksheets that are scattered on my table alongside crumpled and balled up papers of my wrong solutions to the problems. "mmm, i need help with my math homework— if that's okay? jungkook will be home late from class."

[ yeah, sure! no problem. do you have soft copies of your worksheet? it'll be easier to work that way. ]

"give me a minute," moving over to the files tab, i sent her pdf versions of my worksheets. this is not new between us, she has always been a big help to my academic struggles.

[ when's jungkook coming home? she would always ask me that question because we have to manage our time in our call— jungkook doesn't know i still have connection with his ex-girlfriend. and he can't know that i still talk to jaeyoon unnie even after what happened to what they have.

i shrugged, writing down the solutions she sent me back. "not sure. he told me he'll be late tonight— he does clinical rotations now, do you know about that?"

[ yeah . . . he puts up instagram stories sometimes. he looks like he's havi— ]

"uno?" the call disconnected after jungkook called me from the door. i glanced from jungkook to my iPad where my worksheet is now displayed after the call got cut off when jaeyoon unnie ended it. it's a relief that we both have the fear of getting caught of our little alliance. but it's funny how this is not even something bad yet we hide like killers on the run.

jungkook walked up to me and gave my hair a ruffle before flopping his body on my bed, eyes immediately closing due to exhaustion. "who was that on call?" i shrugged, not wanting to lie to him but i have to.

"just a friend. i need help with my math homework."

jungkook hummed, "she sounds exactly like jaeyoon i thought my ears were perceiving me for a quick second there." my lips curled into a frown as i glanced at him. i am not sure if he misses jaeyoon because i may be not that knowledgeable of what their relationship is but one thing i know for sure is they had something special no one else could possess.

if i would describe jaeyoon's voice, though as cliché as it sounds, it's dripping honey. it's nasal, but not a bad type of nasal. it's soft, and i can't imagine her raising her voice to anyone. and if i would relate her to something, it would definitely be a golden retriever or a tulip.

"really? i don't think so . . . "

"i think so," jungkook opened an eye and peeked at me as i fiddle with the strings of my hoodie, anxious whether he found out about my connection with his ex-girlfriend. "anyways, topic off of her. have you eaten? we can just order chinese— we've had pizza for three dinners straight now."

with our parents working as doctors, jungkook and i are always left alone at home. technically, i'm the only one left since jungkook is on his final year of med-school— he's busier now, which means i get the house pretty much all to myself when seokjin hyung doesn't stop by.

it has always been this way. with their career, jungkook and i had to grow up without their guidance. it is what it is. take-aways are our go-to meals because neither of us knows how to work in the kitchen. jungkook knows a little (he can literally do anything) but he just knocks out on his bed every time he comes home from university that's why we always resort to food deliveries.
