I woke up, lying on my bed. I was at home. I was at home. What happened to the others? What happened to my goal to get the last items I needed before I could finally defeat Romero? I sighed in my bed and rolled over. The book was on my desk and the last few artefacts were probably scattered around the room somewhere. I heard a knock on my door and I tried not to cry from disappointment, "Come in."
It was Kahlo. She also looked quite disappointed, "Hey."
She shut the door behind her and tears began to flood down my face, "I...I don't know what went wrong. I don't know why this happened. It's like we're all the way back to the start."
"I know...shh...shh..there, there. Don't cry. Dad's home, apparently Mom's going somewhere and she's not coming home for a few days."
"Dad's here?"
"Mhm, do you want me to get him for you?"
"Yeah. I wanna talk to him."
"Okay. DAD! DAD!"
I heard someone racing up the stairs, it was my dad. He saw Kahlo sitting by my bedside, and he told her to leave the room so he could talk to me.
"Long time no see, my boy."
"Hey, dad."
"Why so glum, son?"
"I left home...to save...to save...my friends, and the...princesses. And it's all gone horribly wrong!"
"Princesses you say? You mean...you mean, Séra, Demi and Sisia?"
"Who's Sisia...?"
"Princess Eunisia!"
"Yeah...her."
"Karsyn, who were you trying to save them from? They're princesses and I'm sure they're capable of doing things by themselves-"
"I was trying to save them from Romero."
"Romero? Son, that's not an easy job. Even I couldn't do that."
"It's all gone bad!"
"No it hasn't, son. Look. In life, there's ups and downs, all that matters is having experience and without experience you won't learn. So don't say it's all gone bad, because soon you'll turn to your Ma and I, and we'll all be glad that you've done this. I swear to you, my boy."
"So dad, what do I do?"
"Keep this a secret between you and I, son. Don't let anyone tell your Ma, and don't let her find out either but I say go out there, go back to your friends and the princesses, do what you need to do to fight Romero off, and come home and tell me that you've made it. Tell me that you've made it in life and there's no backing out now."
"O-Okay, dad."
"But before you go and do anything, make sure you take this with you."
He handed me a box and inside of that box, was chess pieces. Great! I collected the third-to-last thing I needed. He pointed to the initials on the chess board and it was a combination of his initials and Princess Séraphine's.
"Tell the Princess that Khristin's always thinking about her."
"I will."
"I love you, son."
"I love you too, dad."
I gave him a hug and sniffled into his arms, just by hugging him, it was as if I was his little boy again. He patted my head and wiped my tears away, "Come on, son. You've got this."
As he stood to get up, I saw him smile at Kahlo and cup her cheek with his hand, she was also grinning and she looked at me from the doorway.
"I guess...I guess that means we have another shot at this, right?"
"We do."
She shut the door and opened the book, I heard a loud repetitive knock at my window, I opened it and saw that same apparition of what seemed to be Wanderer, except it wasn't an apparition, he appeared to be really real.
"Wanderer!"
"Yes, Karsyn?"
"Oh my gosh-"
"Kahlo, this is Wanderer."
"So that's who you've been talking to...all this time?"
"Yeah."
"Oi, you guys should relax, it's not a big deal. Karsyn, I came here because I noticed you were struggling."
"Yeah, I was."
"Was?"
"Mhm."
"There's something about this, that...just doesn't seem right, Wanderer. Why did everything suddenly go downhill?"
"My gosh...and you think my life was easy. Karsyn, the reason why everything went downhill was because you were stressed, angry, and if I have to assume, you weren't focused enough."
"I was!"
"You weren't. You didn't think I could hear all of the arguments you had?"
"Shoot."
"Well, I just wanted to say that don't lack faith. My life had downhills, as many downhills as possible...but I got through them, and died! But I died being a martyr, or so I thought I would die as one; but now, Karsyn, I'm proud to be part of your revolution, so don't you dare give up."
"Thank you, Wanderer."
He embraced me into a warm hug, but soon I realised I was hugging thin air, that was when I realised when he went back inside of the book. I collected the artefacts, and even double checked my room to make sure I wasn't missing anything. I checked the book, all of the pages were restored, I grabbed it and the gun and made sure my coat was buttoned up, Kahlo was wearing a blouse and denim trousers underneath her coat.
"Let's do this, together?"
"Together."
We raced down the stairs, and the first place we went to was Adora's house, it appeared to be empty, but once she opened the door, we saw that everyone else was in a circle, except for the princesses.
"Karsyn!"
"Euph!"
We ran up to each other, hugging each other tightly. He couldn't let me go, "I don't know what the hell happened, but once you used the necklace, everything wasn't how it was, y'know!"
"Yeah."
"I don't know where my mother and Demetrius went." he said, with a frown.
I grabbed onto his cheek, "We'll find them, don't you worry."
His eyes sparkled as he looked at me, there was a sign of faith inside of those eyes. A faith that I knew I should never give up, just like Wanderer had said.
I saw a blue hair on the chess box, I knew it was Alphonse's. He snuck up behind me and patted me on the back, "Our hero is back in town guys!"
Our hero.
Those two words made my heart melt. It made me realise how grateful I should be to have everyone I can sticking by my side.
"So, what's our next plan, Karsyn?"
"Our next plan, is to find the princesses, especially Eunisia. Wait, crap, why do I have this chess board? Whatever, I'll just ask Wanderer later, that is, if they decide to answer. But after we find the princesses, we need to go to Romero, even though I don't want to, we have to find a way to him, and get him to tell us the truth about Eunisia, because apparently it said in the book that she was the Princess of the Corrupted Era, and that doesn't make any sense, because the Corrupted Era is Romero's thing and..."
"Is that all?" Euphoria rolled his eyes.
"And then, after, I think...I think I need the last two artefacts...oh yeah! The trumpet and the note sheets for "Reveille."
"Reveille? Isn't that the morning call?"
"Yeah."
"After that, I have to duel Romero, I think, if I'm not wrong. And that decides our fates guys, whether we make it, or whether we live our lives in agony."
"That doesn't seem too complicated."
"Sure it doesn't, but for me, it is."
Atticus put his arm around my shoulder, "Let's start getting a move on then, from here, let's go get the princesses!"
"Yeah!"
"Wait...where are they, how do we know where they are?"
He pointed at the book, that was revealed by my open satchel.
"I guess we should get going."
