Chapter One: Shock

Intro/Summary - Jamie & Eddie grew up as best friends all the way through to their senior year of High School. They both promised they'd go to police academy together & then work in the same precinct. A week before their graduation, Eddie is kidnapped. It's hard for Jamie to focus but he continues his life and goes to school and becomes a cop. His search for his best friend never stops. He thinks about her every day.
Will he ever find her? Or will it be too late?

      Eddie Janko and Jamie Reagan had been best friends since elementary school, and now it was a week before their High School graduation. They had both been accepted into the police academy and agreed they'd work in the same precinct and stay best friends forever. Jamie had never really thought about dating Eddie as he didn't want to ruin their amazing friendship. They'd both dated off and on throughout the years but nothing serious. Eddie had had one bad experience when she was sixteen when her boyfriend had tried to assault her after walking her home. That took some time and counseling to help her get over but Jamie was there every step of the way.
       It was the end of May and graduation was around the corner. He hung out with Eddie after school almost every other day.... and now that finals were over, he had taken her out to go bowling, they saw a movie and had a late dinner. It was a late evening but nothing too crazy. It was about nine thirty on a Friday when he had walked Eddie home to her apartment. Her Mom was usually sleeping if it was late so Jamie dropped her off in the lobby 
"text me when you get upstairs okay? I love you" Jamie said as he hugged her
"I love you too Reagan, I'll see you tomorrow okay?" she said smiling
"hey I had fun tonight. I can't believe schools over" she said
"well sort of over... now I get to watch you kick boys asses at the academy" Jamie said smiling as she laughed
"see you tomorrow" he said
       She went to the elevator and had pressed it open but before getting into it - someone grabbed her
"not funny Jamie" she said
"shut up" a man said
"Janko's daughter right?" he laughed
"if you scream or try anything stupid. I will kill you and hunt down that boy you were with too" he said
"now are you gonna be a good girl and come with me?" he asked
       Eddie just nodded frantically as he had one hand over her mouth and one gripping her waist. This wasn't happening. This wasn't happening. Her heart was beating out of her chest. She prayed Jamie was still in the lobby and would rescue her, but he was gone. Fear took over her body and Eddie was preparing herself to die.

       Jamie had gone to bed already around eleven after his shower. He had thought it was strange Eddie hadn't texted him like she always did but maybe she just fell asleep. Just as Jamie was about to go to sleep there was a knock on his door
"Jamie!" it was Frank
"Dad? What's wrong?" Jamie asked turning a light on and getting back up
"where is she!?" it was Eddie's Mom, Lena when he opened the door
"what? Calm down Miss. Janko, I brought Eddie home an hour ago" Jamie said
"well she isn't there! I checked her room" she said
"wait... Eddie, she's not home at all?" Jamie asked trying not to panic
"I... she was supposed to text me, she didn't. I assumed she fell asleep" Jamie grabbed his phone off the night stand and saw where he had sent a message
Jamie: 'hey it's just me. You make it up ok?'
"she didn't answer me. She didn't answer me!" he said frantically
      He quickly called her and it was ringing. Pick up, please pick up... he thought.
"hey it's Eddie! Sorry I can't get to the phone. Leave me a message and I'll call or text you back"

"DAMN IT!" Jamie threw his phone
"what if she's hurt?" Jamie asked as tears welled up in his eyes
"Jamie calm down. We are already getting a search warrant for the hotels security footage from the hallway where she lives and the lobby. Now what happened after you dropped Eddie off?" Frank asked
"uh, we laughed and were talking.... I told her to text me and she said okay. We thought you were sleeping Lena, so I didn't come up. We didn't want to wake you" Jamie said
"the one time I didn't walk her up. The ONE TIME!" Jamie yelled
"Jamie relax. This isn't helping anyone" Frank said
"what's going on?" Erin asked waking up
"Eddie's missing! Something happened. I took her home but I didn't walk her upstairs" Jamie said
"Oh Jamie" Erin said hugging him
"I've already filed a police report. They're sending out an amber alert" Lena said
"Lena I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry!" Jamie cried
"Jamie stop it. This is no one's fault. We will find her. I will get my best guys together from the twelve and put out a search asap" Frank said
"every dog and every officer will be looking for her tonight okay?" Frank said
"just bring her home Dad, bring her home!" Jamie cried
        Jamie slammed his door shut and just started throwing books off the shelves and was crying. He called her again, and texted her. No answer.
"Eddie I love you. I'm so sorry, please pick up. Please give me a sign you're okay. Please I'm so sorry... I LOVE YOU!" he said in one of the messages

       It was almost four in the morning. Eddie had been missing five hours. Jamie went to the station finally and begged to join the search. He watched the painful video footage of a man in a hoodie taking her away from the elevator. She looked scared. He had a gun in his pants and he had said something to her and then took her away. Jamie felt sick. He threw up in the bathroom before finally being allowed to search with two other police men. They searched for the next ten hours. Jamie got out of the car every so often and hung posters with her picture.
         They searched for about fourteen hours straight. It was cold and dark. They had stopped once to eat but Jamie couldn't stomach any food. Finally they stopped. The police took Jamie home around five the next afternoon.
      Jamie went to his room and cried. He just cried for what felt like forever. He just wanted Eddie home and safe. He wanted to hold her and tell her no one would ever hurt her again. He wanted to tell her he loved her. He just wanted her home. She didn't deserve any of this. He tried to sleep but he couldn't. He couldn't stop thinking about the hell she was going through if she was alive. He could hear her cries for help in his mind. Finally he passed out.
