Jamie and Eddie: Best Friends Until the End

Chapter Eleven: Christmas Time

It's been almost ten months, and Eddie's recovery was going pretty well. She still had plenty of bad days, but plenty of good ones too. Jamie finally got to hear her laugh again one day and it surprised them both. She was learning to trust people again. Jamie was back to a full work schedule but he still visited Eddie every day. He made time before work, lunch time and after work. They hung out every second they got.
One day Jamie and Kara had just gotten lunch and brought it back to the station when Eddie decided to surprise him. She had taken a cab by herself and brought him his favorite meal, parmesan shrimp. She went into the precinct and waited at the front desk to ask for Jamie
"can we help you Miss?" an officer asked
"I'm looking for Jamie, Jamie Reagan" she said
"you must be Eddie Janko" a man said
"this station has heard so much about you, I'm Sergeant Renzulli. I trained Jamie on the job" Renzulli said
"what brings you by? How are you doing after everything?" he asked
"I'm okay, Jamie's been a big help. It was hard readjusting at first" she said
"well let me take you To Jamie. I think he and his partner just got back from lunch" he said
"Hey Reagan!" Renzulli yelled
"look what I found" he said
"Eddie! Oh my god, what are you doing here!?" Jamie asked as he got up
"I wanted to surprise you!" she said
"how'd you get here? Did Lena bring you?" Jamie asked
"no I... I took a cab" Eddie said
"seriously? That's huge!" Jamie said
"I guess you met my boss" Jamie said
"oh yea we talked in the front hallway" Eddie said
"I can't believe you're here!" Jamie said
"I brought you some lunch, it's okay if you've already eaten" she said
"Eddie you didn't have to do all this" Jamie said
"I wanted to do it Jamie... I wanted to show you how far I've come and, to prove to myself how far I've come. Plus I know it's not much but I wanted to show how I appreciate everything you've done for me" she said
"Eddie!" he said as he hugged her
"let me introduce you to my partner" Jamie said
"Kara, this is Eddie. Eddie Janko" Jamie said
"I'm Kara Walsh... and it's so nice to meet you properly. You look so beautiful" she said
"you probably don't remember I'm the one who drove you and Jamie to the hospital after we found you" she said
"no I'm sorry" Eddie said
"well thank you for this beautiful surprise" Jamie said
"I get off around six so maybe dinner later?" Jamie said
"sounds good" Eddie said
"I love you, and I'm proud of you. Text me when you leave and when you get home okay?" Jamie said
"I love you too" she said
He hugged Eddie goodbye and then got to work on the lunch she brought him
"wow that was huge for her" Jamie said
"to get in a cab with a stranger and come here?" Jamie said
"well it shows how much you've helped her Reagan. She looks really good too" Kara said
"we've been working on her diet. It hasn't been easy but I think she's almost got most of her weight back finally" Jamie said
Jamie finished his lunch and then he and Kara went back out onto the streets for a few more hours.

        Jamie couldn't believe it was Christmas time already. This would be Eddie's first Christmas home in almost three years. New York always gotten fairly cold in the winter so they made sure she had enough hats, gloves and coats.
        After a long day of work, Jamie had stopped by the Janko's apartment like he had been doing every day. He had a key, so he let himself in.
"Jamie!" Eddie said
"hey beautiful" he said as he hugged her
"look! Mom and I have been decorating!" she said excited
"wow, it looks beautiful" Jamie said
"I think this is the most she's done honestly" Eddie said
"we were about to put the star on the tree!" she said
    Eddie sounded like a kid excited for Christmas again, but considering she spent the last two by herself, locked away in a shed.. Jamie was just happy to see her so happy and excited. It was the happiest she'd been in a long time. She led Jamie to the living room where she got the star out of the box and he took a picture of her on his phone.

It was now Christmas eve and Jamie had spent part of it at the Reagan's, and the other part was with Eddie and her Mom. It was a quiet evening and they were laying together by the fire listening to music
"hey Jamie" she said
"yea?" he said
"would you ever consider like, I don't maybe us being together?" she asked
"yea I have... why?" Jamie asked surprised
"I don't know, I mean... we're always together. I think we have feeling for each other" she said
"are you ready for that step?" Jamie asked her
"I think so, I trust you. I know you wouldn't hurt me" she said
Jamie slowly leaned in and began to kiss her. It had been so long since she had actually kissed someone she was afraid she was going to ruin the moment, but when her lips met Jamie's- everything felt right. They kissed for a while. Her lips were soft and sweet and Jamie gently put his arm around her waist as the kiss deepened
"that was... beautiful" she said
"I love you" he said
"I love you too" she said smiling
For the first time since Eddie was rescued, she was happy. She was truly happy. She laid her head back on Jamie's shoulder and he just held her until the two fell asleep by the fire.
