Chapter Seven: Finally Safe

      Jamie had officially be a cop for about a year which meant his probation time was over. He loved every minute of being a cop. The people he helped, the lives he saved. His Sgt. was Sgt Anthony Renzuli who had also trained his brother.
His partner Kara Walsh had promised to take him out to a bar with a few of the other guys. They played several rounds of darts and pool, and beer pong. Jamie liked having a good time. Drinking and hanging out at bars was a good distraction away from Eddie and his work stress
"come on one more round!" Jamie whined
"Reagan you are way too drunk to stand" Kara laughed
"well what'd you bring me out for if It wasn't to have fun?" he said
"one more round of darts, and we are leaving. I really don't need your parents or siblings coming after me because you are so drunk you wreck the house" she said
"I don't need to lose my job" she laughed
"come on Jamie, I dare you to have three more beers before you pass out!" a girl said who had joined them in the game
"remember he is a cop, and so am I" Kara said warning the girl
Kara wasn't as drunk as the rest of them, as she knew she needed to be partially sober to take Jamie home. Jamie picked up the darts and another beer and started throwing them. They were playing with a few other girls who were at the bar and a few of the other cops. On the final throw, Jamie missed the board and hit the clock on the wall and he started to fall over
"alright, come on" Kara said
"parties over. Come on" she said
Kara got a cab and made sure Jamie got home safely. She had had a few beers as well, but not nearly as many since they both had day tours the next day.
"easy Reagan" she said as she led him into the house
She led Jamie upstairs. Kara had been invited to family dinner once so she sort of knew her way around the house. She found Jamie's room where he passed out before she got him on the bed. She put a blanket over him and shut the door
"hey Kara" it was Erin
"hey, Jamie's passed out. We celebrated a little too much of his one year anniversary. He should be fine in the morning. Might have a headache but" she said
"ok, we'll look after him" Erin said
"it was good to see you" Erin said
"you as well. Tell everyone I said hello!" Kara said

The next morning Jamie's head was pounding and he felt sick to his stomach
"great" he said as he tried to sit up
He threw on some clothes and then headed downstairs to see Erin making breakfast
"morning" she said
"hey" Jamie said as he grabbed the bottle of aspirin
"do you remember anything from last night?" Erin laughed
"I went to the bar with Kara and a few other cops... I think we played darts?" Jamie said
"good remembering. Kara brought you home" Erin said
"good" Jamie said
"how's the headache?" she asked
"awful" he said as he rubbed his eyes
"well congrats on making it on the job for a year" Erin said
"thanks sis" Jamie said
"here, I made some extra bacon and toast" she said
"I'd take a hot shower before work" she said
"will do after breakfast" he said
Erin left for work, and Jamie ate his bacon and toast. After he ate breakfast he drank a glass of orange juice and took a shower.
It was around eleven when he finally went to work. He and Kara were both working the later tour.

        

        It was another busy day at Jamie's precinct and today they were raiding a guys house. His neighbor had turned him in for smelling weed and other drug substances being cooked and sold. They were gathering the officers together early that morning, going over the protocol and what needed to be done. A SWAT team was also going with them.
Jamie was excited for the job as this was his first big assignment since becoming a cop. They left the precinct around nine and got to the mans place around ten. He lived in a small secluded town with only about twenty houses on the block. There was a black car parked out front and a small garden shed behind the house. It was a small but tidy place. Jamie was with his partner and his training Sgt, Sgt. Renzuli and the SWAT team
"Police! Open up!!" they banged on the mans front door
"Hello! what's this about?" a man asked answering the door
"John Ledger? your neighbor reported the smell of drugs and other substances. We need to search your premises. We have a warrant" Sgt Renzuli said
"be my guest" he said
"Walsh, stay in the living room. Make sure he doesn't leave or move" Renzuli said
"you got it boss" Kara said
Jamie started looking around the mans place. The house was pretty clean over all. The SWAT team went to the back and searched the garage, the van, the yard and shed. They broke the lock off the shed and the man was stunned what he found. A young woman... half naked, sitting on a bed and shaking.
"oh my god" he said
"hey you're gonna be okay" he said to her
"no, get away please" she begged
"honey we're gonna help you" he said
"NO!" she cried as she curled up in a ball
The officer from the SWAT team came back into the house and figured maybe a policeman would be more friendly looking then someone in a SWAT uniform
"hey Reagan or Walsh, we've got a young woman kidnapped in the shed. She's terrified" he said
"I'll go" Jamie said
As Jamie went to the backyard, he slowly opened the shed door and what he saw shocked him. The young woman being held was Eddie. Jamie choked back tears as he saw his friend. She was so skinny and her beautiful blonde hair was a mess, but he knew in a second it was her. She was looking at the floor, crying and shaking. She had on an old dirty tshirt with no underwear.
"Please don't hurt me" she said
"please!" she cried
"I'm not gonna hurt you" Jamie said calmly
"Eddie, Eddie it's me- Jamie" he said gently as he bent down to her level
Eddie picked her head up as she recognized his voice.
"Jamie? Is that really you?" she cried
"it's me, it's me!" he said
"I want to go home Jamie" she said
"can you walk?" he asked her
"I don't know" she said
"come here" he said
Jamie embraced her into a hug and she didn't let go. She was crying into his shoulder
"I never thought I'd see you again" she sobbed
"shhh, I'm right here. I'm right here" he said
"god I've missed you" he said
He grabbed her blanket to cover her lower half as he picked her up. She was so skinny she weighed almost nothing. She clung to his neck as he carried her to the police car. She was still shaking.
"I'll get you some water okay?" he said
"don't leave me, please" she begged
"I'm not. I'm right here" he said
He grabbed a water bottle from the front seat and she drank it quickly
"I thought about you every day" she said
"me too" he said
"I can't believe you're the one who saved me" she said
"shhhh, just relax" he said
"I want to see my Mom Jamie" she said
"you will" he said
"why don't you try to relax Eddie. You're safe now I promise" Jamie said
"let me see if we can leave. Let me contact my partner" Jamie said
"hey Walsh you there" Jamie said
"I'm here" she said
"we've found a young woman kidnapped in the shed. She's pretty shaken up and scared. Where's Renzuli, can we leave?" Jamie asked
"he's still doing the raid. I don't know where he is" she said
"alright" Jamie said
"we're gonna have to stay a while okay? Just try to sleep on me. Relax" Jamie said
"how long has it been... since I was taken?" she asked
"a little over two years" Jamie said
"I never stopped looking for you. Ever" Jamie said
"Jamie? Can you hold me?" she said
"yea come here" he said
        He held her small body in his arms. He couldn't believe how thin she was. She was softly crying and he was trying to comfort her. He couldn't believe it after two and a half years, he finally found her. The raid lasted a little over an hour. All of the drugs were found in the basement under the floor boards. They took Eddie to the hospital where she refused to let go of Jamie.
