Chapter Nine: Recovering

        Eddie had been home for about two months now. Jamie had to go back to work full time but her Mom kept a close watch on her. She stayed in her room mostly. The excitement of coming home had worn off. She was withdrawn and scared. She was paralyzed with fear and anxiety. Every time Jamie would try to take her somewhere she had a panic attack. Any loud noise or a bang of a door had her heart rate go through the roof. She would pace her room for hours and not come out. Some days she refused to eat, some days she would over eat. She had mixed emotions about everything. The world, her life, why she survived...
One day Jamie had to work a double shift and Eddie had just refused to come out of her room. Her Mom made her food and would leave it outside the door. When her Mom knocked on the door she jumped in fear.
"honey" Lena said
"honey please come downstairs" she said
"no please just leave me alone okay?" Eddie cried
"honey what's wrong?" she asked
"I said leave me alone!" she cried
She could tell Eddie was crying but after a few minutes of silence, she left the food outside her door. As Eddie paced her room she decided she needed a way to release her pain... she found the scissors she had kept in her desk drawer. She wanted to release her pain somehow and she remembered a girl back in HS who had depression and cut herself.
She sat in the chair and took a hold of the scissors with her right hand... she bit her lip as she let the metal dig into her skin.
There was a split second of relief, so she did it again. She made a total of six marks. Three on each wrist. Her hands were shaking from the pain. She wasn't sure why she had done this to herself but she just needed something to make the pain stop. Some distraction.

Jamie got home around eight that night. He was still living with Eddie and Lena.
"how's Eddie today?" he asked her
"locked herself in her room. She hasn't eaten any of the meals I made her" Lena said
"let me go try" Jamie said taking a plate with a sandwich on it
"Eddie" he said
"Eddie it's me, can you open the door?" he said
"Eddie?" when he said her name a third time with no response, he got worried
"EDDIE!" he said again louder
He finally opened her door and he threw the plate of food on the ground when he saw her slumped over in the chair with blood all over her arms
"LENA CALL AN AMBULANCE!'" Jamie yelled
"what's wrong?" she asked
"JUST CALL AN AMBULANCE!" Jamie said
"Eddie, Eddie can you hear me? Sweetheart" Jamie said
He felt for a pulse and it was weak and he sighed in relief that she was still alive. He dug through her closet and found some tshirts he used as gauze to stop the bleeding
"come on Eddie, come on" he begged
"you've fought for this long don't you dare give up on me now" he said
"the ambulance is coming, now what the hell happened?" Lena asked
"oh my god" she said when she saw her daughters limp body in Jamie's arms
"is she... is she" she said
"she's still breathing, but barely" Jamie said
"ohh sweetheart, my sweet girl" Lena said
"she's gonna be okay Lena" Jamie said
They both held Eddie until the paramedics arrived. They explained what had happened about Eddie's kidnapping and how this must've been a suicide attempt. They both sat in the ambulance by her and held her hand. They had gotten her stable in the ambulance but she was still extremely weak.

When they arrived at the hospital Eddie was taken to a trauma room to get her wounds stitched up. Jamie and Lena were quiet in the waiting room as they paced back and forth. Finally an hour and a half later, a nurse and Doctor came to tell them how she was
"are you Edit Janko's family?" he asked
"yes I'm her mother, and Jamie is practically family" Lena said
"is she okay?" Jamie asked
"she's okay. We have her on a light sedation to keep her calm and her surgery went well. We are giving her a small blood transfusion as well. That should be finished within three hours. Normally for suicide patients we are required to restrain them- but we figured with Edit's story and history that wouldn't be a good idea. As long as she is monitored by one of you at all times and a nurse will check her every hour for the next twenty four hours" he said
"has she said anything since surgery?" Jamie asked
"she's been asking for you both" he said
"I'd like to see my daughter" Lena said
"of course" The doctor said
He led them to Eddie's room where she was resting. They both pulled up a chair and Jamie gently took her hand
"Mom? Jamie?" Eddie said weakly
"I'm here sweetheart"'she said
"I'm here too" Jamie said
"I'm sorry" she said as she started to cry
"I'm so sorry!" she cried
"hey, shhh Eddie relax okay? You're okay now" Jamie said
"I'm so sorry... I... I didn't want to die, I just want the pain to go away" she said
"shhhh" Jamie said
"make it stop hurting... please" she whimpered
"Eddie try to relax, you're making your blood pressure rise" Jamie said
Eddie was crying and Jamie just tried to comfort her. Finally because of the sedation, she fell back asleep.
"how do we help her Jamie?" Lena asked
"I don't know honestly" Jamie said
"she still hasn't told me everything that's happened and I know she's gonna have a panic attack at court" he said
"maybe the Doc can give her some meds or something" he said
