Chapter 20

Run

The loud thumps off in the distance meant nothing to the group as they continued to rise toward the observatory. They weren't too far off, they could just make out the telescope. Lake had found that riding a Statler was fun, but horrible on one's backside. She leaned back for a second and then forward. As soon as she leaned forward though, both Statler jumped and ran faster. Going a completely different direction.

"What are they doing?" Akari yelled over the Statlers loud calls. Emmet looked around to see if there was a threat that they could have smelled. That's when he saw the threat barreling toward them at breakneck speeds.

"Avalanche!" Emmet yelled, picking up Lake, turning her around and pulling her toward him. "Whatever you do, do not let go. I have you, I won't let you go." He felt her pull her legs around his midsection in an attempt to hold on tighter. Her legs barely made it halfway. He zipped up his jacket, all you could see was a small tuft of her blond hair. He could feel her take her glasses off and pocket them. Her fingers held onto his shirt like it was the most secure thing there was.

"We have to run parallel!" He called out to Akari. Akari had no idea what he was planning on doing, but she pushed the moose pokemon to follow him.

Ingo felt like all was lost to him, his eyes stayed glued to the camera feeds. He sat there watching the snow grow closer and closer to his family. Anything that had ever meant anything to him ran for their lives upon the backs of pokemon. Pleading to anything that was willing to listen to save them. Once again offering up himself as he did before. But this time, it would seem that no one was listening.

The snow slammed into the side of the mountain along with his brother, Akari, and Lake.

The distraught man heard a soft giggle right in his ear and the thin arms that wrapped around him. She was able to speak to him rather well from where she stood.

"Does it hurt?" Her words were soft, but he hated the way they sounded. "I figured watching my daughter die...would have. But it looks like I lost my feelings for her long ago."

These words caused Ingo to jump and look around at the woman. The face was still youthful, her features were a soft match to that of Lake, only a bit older. Yet the eyes were different. It would seem Lake might have gotten her fathers eyes.

"What do you mean?" Ingo's voice was hoarse as he had been crying. Despair had washed over him like a raging river. He didn't care anymore, and kindness for these people was all but spent.

"Ah, so the little brat didn't tell you? Her father and I were lovers. Although we never married and he never wanted children." She pulled back away from him walking around to Ingo's front so he could see her in a skin tight green dress. It looked like molten metal dripping down her figure.

"What does that have to do with Lake?" He asked, he really should have bit his tongue. He should have just stopped talking.

"He left us, decided to go off and look for that abandoned emerald mine rather than help raise a child...a child I didn't want either so...I did the next best thing. I sent her to live with her aunt." The woman walked over and sat down on Ingo's knee and leaned forward both her arms wrapped around his neck lazily. He could feel her breath on his cheek. "But then the bastard found out and cheated on me. My sister...he pretended like all was well, and took care of Lake." She smiled as she stood up walking toward the door. "It's a pity those two died. We were planning on pulling the map from the car, but you two idiots had to save her from that stupid car as it went down."

Ingo's heart clamped down and shuttered. Oh that was so long ago, so very long ago. He closed his eyes and gritted his teeth. He hated so much to physically fight and he wished he had his pokemon. He would have to do what he could.

The woman turned as she heard a loud crack and a thud. She turned to see Ingo on his back on the pile of broken chair. He had slammed himself, chair and all against the wall. The wood was big enough to use. He picked up the leg of a chair and looked at the woman who looked just as horrified as the guard.

"He's breaking out!" The woman yelled and ran toward the stairs. The guards went for their guns only to have them hit from their hands by Ingo's makeshift weapon.

Running into a room not too far off and closed and locked the door. Turning around he realized he was in a locker room.

"This will be sufficient...I hope." He opened a locker and started to pull down a uniform and started to put it on. It was bound to be warmer in those then in his Pajamas and bare feet.
