Chapter 21

Hidden

Lake could feel the rush of the Statler as it ran. She could even hear Emmet panting as they kept going. The harsh rumble and roar of the avalanche as it grew closer and closer to them. She buried her face into Emmet's chest, screwing her eyes shut. It was all she could do. She felt Emmet turn to look around. He curled into Lake and she knew they weren't going to make it.

She felt Emmet fly over the Statlers head and hit the ground hard. With a loud grunt, and a cry he cartwheeled through the air and landed on his side. Skidding and rolling to a stop some feet away.

Everything grew numbingly silent.

Lake found that she was trying to make her breathing quiet because of it. Almost like she was trying to keep quiet so death didn't find them.

It was about ten minutes before she felt the zipper on Emmet's jacket go down. She tried to keep still, she felt fingers run down her back. It was far too gentle, far too kind. She heard the words and she turned.

"Lake?" It was Akari. Lake slowly pushed away from Emmet who seemed to be unconscious. Lake however panicked. She stuffed her hands into her pocket and pulled out a pokeball.

"What are you doing?" Akari asked, looking over the pokeball realizing it was one of the ones from back in that dimension they had been stuck in. Lake threw two different pokeballs out. Lady Sneasler and Chandelure. At least there was light within the...

"How? He wasn't supposed to take her." Although Lady Sneasler didn't seem to mind. She curled around Lake like she once did with her Kits. All that was grown now.

Lake answered with a shrug. She knew next to nothing about what happened between them in another dimension.

Akari realized just what had happened. Emmet had run them directly into a cave. Chandelures light reverberated access to the crystals that lined the walls.

"Chandelure." The pokemon sounded astonished by the cavern.

"Where are we?" Akari whispered in awe. Lake looked up at the girl.

"Emmet...must have memorized the map. I didn't know we were this close. I thought we were running. Why did they bring me here?" She wondered.

Ingo slowly walked across the observatory. He kept himself as hidden as he could. Wearing a uniform made it easy, hiding his hair under a hat was also easy...it was his sideburns that caused the problems. So he put on a face mask and kept going like he owned the place. At least...that's what he had learned on tv.

"No cell phone? What about a pokedex? They are trainers at the subway system." Deeds said as he picked up a cigar and snipped the end off. His large lips clamped down on it as he pulled out a match.

"Those don't tend to have signals sir." the man said as he tapped loudly at the computer.

"Don't give me that bullshit!" Deeds pointed his freshly lit cigar at the man. "Find me that damned map! I know it's there. Find it! Rip this mountain apart!" Deeds walked out the door and right past Ingo as he stood 'guard' just outside.

Ingo walked into the room and closed the door. Watching as the man tapped away at the controls. Ingo closed the door and stood there. The man turned and saw him.

"Seriously, he thinks I need to be watched? No trust in this place is there?" He turned back around and glared daggers at the screen.

The man stopped and watched the video again and shook his head. "Hey...come here." He looked around at Ingo. "Look at this and tell me what you see?" Ingo did as he said.

He stopped just on the other side of the chair and leaned over.

"Geez you're tall. Now watch." Ingo watched once again as his brother and their family... he stopped and rewound the video again, and watched.

"They disappeared..." Ingo whispered. "I'll head out that way and see if this makes any more sense. Hopefully they'll be right there." Ingo said, the guy nodded.

"Good luck." The man said with a smile, but then he got serious. "I hope you never find them." He growled and went back to the screen.

That caught Ingo off guard. Why would he care?

Ingo went outside and found the closest snowmobile and climbed on pulling on a helmet.

"Safety checks..." He whispered, just before he pulled away from the observatory.
