Chapter 14

Fun houses are Fun

Lake knew next to nothing about fun houses, having never been to a theme park in her life. Running into the fun house and hiding wasn't too hard. Nothing was on and nothing moved. She just had to wait until it was morning and then she could leave and that monster would be gone.

She wasn't sure how long she had waited there until her curiosity got the better of her. Slowly she stood up and she began to wander through the fun house. She heard her name being called from far off. She jumped back behind black press board and hid there. In her little mind it was the ghosts that wanted her to come to them. Children's minds always ran away from them in the dark.

She heard a loud zap and a pop and the fun house all around her began to come to life. The ground moved below her feet, the music began to play, the lights flashed on and off giving the whole area a wicked look. She gasped feeling the ceiling above her begin to cave from disuse. The whole building began to creak and moan.

Lake tried her best to be light on her feet but the moment her feet hit one of the sensors the floor began to move from side to side she fell, and the floor shoved her through the horribly decaying press board wall. Her screams echoed throughout the whole compound. The splash of the water, and her faltering trying to keep her head above water. Being unable to swim was annoying, being afraid of water to begin with was even more so. What was she going to do? She felt something to her side and grabbed hold of it. She held onto the piece of board for dear life. The water was freezing cold and she wasn't sure how anyone would find her down there. She was going to freeze to death, or drown.

Ingo and Emmet both ran into the fun house. The huge wheel began to rotate, throwing them into one another like they were inside a dryer. The carpet inside of it looked to have once been an eerie green color, but now it was an inky brown. Emmet's once white clothing was covered in mold and dirt. He didn't seem to notice as he reached the other side. Carpet burns on their knees and knuckles.

Running through the mirror maze was a lot harder than they needed it to be. The floor around them was starting to fall through so they tried to step lightly.

The red and green lighting above began to flicker as they tried to run up the stairs that kept trying their best to throw them. Ingo stumbled and hit the ground rather hard. He gritted his teeth pretty sure he had reopened the carpet burn. He almost stood back up if it weren't for the flickering lights flashing along Lake's exposed cheek laying against something floating in the waters down below.

"Emmet!" Ingo called to his brother who tried his best to pull the rest of the wall out of the way. Fun Houses were meant to be able to come apart quite easily for quick transport to the next fairgrounds.

"Lake!?" Emmet called out. There was a soft moan from down below. The child was barely conscious.

"Come on, baby. I'm going to need you to reach out for me." Ingo called out, but the young girl just wasn't budging. Too exhausted and twice as tired.

Emmet reached up pulling down the rope that attached the track lighting to the ceiling. He pulled it down and held one end out for his brother. Ingo tied it around his waist and let his brother lower him down.

To Ingo the water around them smelled so bad. Standing water was that way. He looked up seeing the hole in the ceiling and the many different stuffed animals that lined the walls. He reached out lightly, touching the young girls back. She was freezing to the touch. Her lips were blue and he could hear her labored breathing. She was going to be so sick after this.

Emmet pulled the rope up and out of the hole.

"Might be easier if we left that way rather than going the way we came." Emmet told his brother seeing the light.

Ingo lightly walked along the planks or whatever was left of the fun house. The walk back toward their campsite was terrible, and long. At least to Ingo. He kept hearing her low coughing, sniffling, and labored breathing.

He picked up Lakes' backpack and pulled out some of her new clothes. He didn't want to do this next part, but he would. He looked at his brother motioning for him to turn around. Emmet looked at his pokemon and motioned for them to turn around too. Sneasler looked down at the little girl. Lake smelled horrible because of the standing water, and would probably be sick.

She leaned in as Ingo began to get the freezing cold clothing from his manages freezing body and put dry ones onto her. Laying the previous ones out. Sneasler began to lick the water from the young girl's hair and curled around her trying her best to warm the child.

It was going to be a long night for all of them. Sneasler looked up at her warden and huffed.

"Yes, I know she's young and shouldn't be off on her own. But I'm not the one who scared her." He wiggled his fingers at Sneasler. He stopped as he said the next part. "Although I shouldn't blame you, I should have introduced you to her so she wouldn't have gotten so scared." He sighed and sat down stoking the fire.

Emmet chuckled as he sat back against the trees Chandelure was still glowing above them.

"Whatever we do now brother...we'll need to slow down or make a detour. She's going to be incredibly sick." Emmet looked at the confused look on the Sneaslers face. She seemed to be confused with why he looked like Ingo even though they had met quite a few times now. Plus all the kits that were now grown and off on their own in the wilderness. Well all except one that remained within a pokeball on Ingo's belt. A soft pink dot at the top of a pokeball that looked just like her mothers.

"Hi, I am Emmet." He smiled at the pokemon.

"And you are sure they're heading that way?" Deeds asked the man on the video call. The obscured face was all he could see.

"Of course, theirs nothing else out this way but a stupid broken down theme park, and a tiny town. They'd make their way to the observatory." The man tapped a clawed hand on the table and smiled. His fangs were steel, and the glasses on his nose obscured his eyes. But the slight glow beyond them would have made anyone think something was wrong.

"Alright then Steels. You have a week. If they aren't there by then move on." Deeds tapped the disconnect button. A pair of hands wrapped around Deeds shoulders and he sighed as he sat back letting the tender hands massage his shoulders.

"They're still giving you trouble, Boss?" The tender voice asked.

"Of course they are...they want those jewels. They're probably paying the kids to take them there." He chuckled. "Who wouldn't want them, all of those emeralds." He chuckled as he looked up into the familiar face. "It's a pity really. You don't suppose it would break her poor little heart to see that her own mother betrayed all of them?" The woman laughed and shrugged her shoulders.

"It doesn't matter in the least bit. At the end of the day, she's just a bag of flesh...but I want those jewels." The man's body shook as he laughed at her words.

"Ah well...no need to rush." He sat back and picked up a cigar. "Soon enough, she'll be here and that's all that matters." He sighed contently
