Chapter 22

My Heart

Lake looked around the room and it was a lot bigger than she had imagined. She thought it was like the mines that she saw in books. Just dusty walls, mine trains, and old tools. But this room was mostly stone, with huge emeralds hanging from the cave walls.

Her tiny feet echoed within the cave as she walked around. Although her first impression of touching one of the jewels was gross. It felt slimy. According to Akari it was probably because of all the mold. Lake had never wanted to wash her hands more in her whole life.

Akari held up a large stick with a bit of cloth on the end. The Chandelure used its flame to light the torch. The young woman walked toward the back of the cave to see if she could at least find a way out, because the entrance was covered tightly with snow from the avalanche. At least both Statlers seemed okay although a bit exhausted from the long run.

Emmet was still out cold, once his Statler had thrown him after being pushed forward. Lake walked over to her caretaker and blotted the sweat from his forehead. She shook her head looking back up at the Sneasler who knew Emmet was different from Ingo, and mostly treated them both like pokemon. Because pokemon had a habit of looking the same.

Lady Sneasler looked down at the young girl and sniffed the air. A soft mew purr echoed within the cavern. The word 'Snea' echoed off the crystals causing the young girl to turn and regard the much taller pokemon.

Lake had no idea what this pokemon wanted of her, but it was looking at her so maybe she wanted her to come closer? Lake knew next to nothing about pokemon, but on closer inspection it just looked like a much larger cat...very very large.

Lake walked over to the pokemon who let off several purrs trying to calm the young girl, the last thing she wanted was for the girl to run off again. Last time she got hurt. Stupid human.

"Snea." The pokemon reached over and pulled Lake into a sitting position in front of her.

"She's a noble. She'll take good care of you." Akari said as she walked back over with several arm loads of wood. Putting them into a pile and started to gather rocks and put them around the pile.

Akari looked up and giggled. Sneasler was licking Lakes' hair.

"I guess she thinks I need a bath." Lake ran her fingers over her forehead trying to get the cat's spit from going into her eyes.

Akari put the torch onto the pile of wood and sighed. Her knuckles were freezing cold. It would be good to get some warmth into the room.

"I think it's because you smell like Uncle Ingo." Lake looked up at her as she heard the Uncle part.

"Uncle? You are Emmets daughter then?" Akari held up her hands like she was in trouble.

"Oh no no, it's just...well when Ingo and I were in another dimension for 2 years we latched onto one another. We grew closer because we didn't have anyone. I missed my mom, and Ingo had amnesia. After we finished our missions we were sent back together." She told Lake. "Although when we came back we went to our own homes." She poked the fire and sighed. "I never thought to give him my address, so all he knew was where I was regionally." Akari jumped when she heard a growl. She looked down at her belly and sighed.

"I wish we had some food though. I'd kill for some potato mochi." Lake wasn't sure what potato mochi was, or even if it was that good to kill for, but it sounded like it was good from how Akari said it.

"I've never had it."

"There's a lot of things that she hasn't had." Akari stood up and glared at the person by the door. "I imagine there are going to be a lot of firsts."

"Ingo?" Lake asked for a moment receiving a small wave from the man in uniform covered from head to toe in camo. Akari looked down at Lake as she ran forward.

"Lake, no! Wait!" Akari tried to reach the girl who had jumped up and ran into the arms of the man in uniform. Ingo let the helmet hit the floor and pulled off his mask. Kissing the top of Lakes head.

"I'm here, it's okay now." He cringed at the way Lake clung to him. His wounds weren't healed. Although he wasn't sure if he cared that it hurt. He didn't want her to let go. He walked forward pulling Akari into his arms as well.

"Emmets injured." Lake pointed to Emmet who still lay on the ground near the fire.

"Lets let him rest for a bit more." Ingo sighed, sitting down.
