Chapter Four: Avengers

The Avengers didn't know what to think of Kida at first. Bucky understood her and knew what she was going through. Captain Rogers saw a lot of potential in her. The others were a little frightened by her supernatural powers. But at the same time, they understood her.

"Do you really think that we can protect her from what's haunting her? You know that you got lucky with trying to fix me Steve," Bucky said looking over at Rogers.

"I know. But there's just something about her..."

Tony interrupted him. "Catching feelings now are we Cap," Tony commented while his helmet uncovered his face and smirked. Cap just shook his head. Rogers thought about the personal connection Kida claimed to have with Bucky. The only thing is, is that he can't quite put his finger on it.

"We need to get her back to the tower," Sam stated as he walked up behind Rogers and Bucky. Bucky put her arm over his shoulder, slid his other arm under her knees, and lifted her off the ground. Bucky took her to the jet and set her down gently on a medical bed.

"She said that one of us shot a dart. Who was It? She said that he was in all black," Bucky asked the group on the way back to headquarters. They all thought for a moment or two.

"I did see someone in one of the corners. He was tucked in the shadows pretty well," Clint chimed in from the nose of the jet. Clint set the jet to auto pilot and walked to the others. He sat next to Pietro.

"What else did you see," VISION asked who was sitting on the other side of the bed Kida was on. Clint sighed and rested his elbows on his knees.

"Well I couldn't see clearly but, the man that she saw wasn't alone. He had someone else with him. A girl. They looked like they were twins." Bucky thought for a moment.

"Barnes, are there others like her," Tony asked gesturing towards her laying on the bed.

"Hydra's done this to a lot of people. But I think that there were two sets of twins that they experimented on. One set died and the other survived. They were called the Twins of Destruction."

"So you now just remember that there were twins there? Nice timing Barnes," Tony said sarcastically.

"Stop it Tony," said Sam who was standing.

"Well she does have a lot of power that's for sure," commented VISION. "She was able to manipulate the Shadows and she has incredible strength." Everyone nods in agreement.

"You ain't lying about that. She ripped my wings out of my pack," said Sam.

"She sent me through a wall and made me fight my own shadow. To be honest I felt a little stupid," Tony added. Cap chuckled and shook his head.

"Well we have to figure out a way to help her," VISION said tucking a piece of hair behind her ear. "Because she seems to have a dark past. The loss of her family, brother, friend..."

"Woah, woah. Hold up. VISION how do you know so much about her," Pietro asked.

"While you guys were dealing with her, I was looking through the records of both her and the Twins." Everyone looked at him with confusion.

"How did you get on the jet then," Tony asked.

VISION shook off the question. "That's not the point Mr. Stark. I found information on her past. It appears that you Mr. Barnes, have a biological connection to her."

"I had a thought," Rogers spoke up. They all looked at him. "I just had a hunch that the biological connection to you Buck is true," Cap said looking at Bucky. Bucky gave a questioning look.

"Why so," he asked.

"Because. I'll tell you later." About an hour or two later, they arrived at headquarters. After the others rolled Kida to Dr. Banners lab, Steve pulled Barnes aside.

"Remember when you told me about one of your missions that involved Natasha and the Nuclear Engineer?" Bucky nodded. "You weren't alone when you did it. Do you see where I'm going with this?"

Bucky thought about it for a moment. "I have no clue. You know that I can only remember 95% of my missions."

Steve sighed and thought for a minute. "Alright, alright. Just tell me what you remember from that mission." Rogers knew that it hurt Bucky to talk about his past. Bucky sighed.

"I remember I was riding my motorcycle, following Natasha's car on the mountain side. I shot out her tires near Odessa and the car lost control. I remember seeing the dirt that was on the road get thicker as the car heads for the cliff. Natasha pulls the Nuclear Engineer and herself out before going over the cliff. She was covering her engineer, so I shot him right through her. Then their blood starts to move upward. I look to my left and it's a girl manipulating the blood. I didn't show any emotions back then but if I could, I would have been completely mesmerized by her power. But I never remembered seeing someone following me out there that's the thing. But she cleared up the bloody mess. She uses water to heal Natasha's wound, but she didn't save the engineer. With the car still dangling on the side of the cliff, she pulled something out of the car. With a wave of her hand, the car tumbled down the cliff side. She gives whatever she took to Nat. Then I started to hear sirens from both ends of the road. And the girl pulls me into the shadows, and we run. And that's all I can remember," Bucky said leaning against the wall.

"Alright. Now, can you describe the girl?"

Bucky nodded. "Yeah. She was in all black. She had a mask that covered up to her eyes. And she had a scar just underneath her eye." Steve smiled at him. Then it finally hit Bucky that that girl he saw was Kida. He could only remember certain people from the dark side of his past. And who he worked with on missions was rare for him to remember.

Bucky started to think about how they were split up before the experimentation wiped their memories. So, he planned to check her records. He had a feeling that Steve was going to stop him. So, he didn't tell him.

Pietro, then, ran up to them. "Dr. Banner said that she will be responsive in the next 24 hours or so."

"Which means," Steve asked.

"Which means that she should wake up some time tomorrow. To put it in English for ya," Pietro smirked.

Rogers chuckled. "Thank you. Are we allowed to check up on her?"

Pietro nodded "Yeah you can. Anyway, the team is going to get something to eat. Do you guys want something?"

"I'll just come with you," Steve said, walking to Pietro's side. "Buck are you coming?"

Bucky shook his head. "I think I should stay. Just to watch over things ya know." Steve started to get suspicious.

He shrugged off the thought. "Alright I'll bring you back Chinese. You want your usual? Bucky nodded. Then Pietro and Steve walked back to the others.

Once they disappeared around the corner, Bucky went to his room and changed into sweats and a t-shirt. After that, he was all alone at headquarters. Minus having her unconscious in a lab. Still baffled at the fact that she knows him. He remembered that he had a little sister back home, but never recalled his sister being taken.

Yet again, a lot could've happened in his absence. Later on, he decided to go check on her. He walked through the doors to Banner's lab. Kida was laying on a bed with a tank top and sweats and her hair down. He saw the rising, falling motion of her chest, which told him that she was still alive. Then he saw her fists clenching and unclenching themselves. Which made him realize that, she might be awake.
